Fegmaniax Digest Volume 2 Number 46 Today's Topics: ------- ------ Butthole Surfer Ghost Dad Covers, "FAQ", &etc. Free Gift Jay's post Robyn Hitchcock, anyone? Robyn Magazine: Positive Vibrations Robyn Magazine: Positive Vibrations Southern California Robyn shows announced Tapes and misc. covers does anyone have any solo acoustic Robyn? follow-up...oops! from alt.music.alternative [][][][][][][][][][] From: Marj Wolfe To: fegmaniax Subject: Free Gift Date: Mon, 08 Aug 94 16:36:00 PDT Sorry, I get the digest, so it took me a little while before I was in a position to respond to this question about the free gift. I got the same thing as Andy, a B&W poster of for "Thoths" (actually look like squashed dark birds from the inside of Fegmania) signed by Robyn. Also, I would be quite interested in hearing others covers of Robyn. It would certainly add another dimension to the somewhat ephemeral impression that I have of the other patrons of this list. [][][][][][][][][][] From: jturner@rpms.ac.uk (Jonathan Turner) Subject: Robyn Magazine: Positive Vibrations To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Date: Tue, 9 Aug 94 14:13:51 BST Issue Three of "Positive Vibrations" is now out. I have no connection with the magazine (or its publisher), but I thought you might be interested in the info: It's an A5 sized fanzine this issue has 36 pages and includes reviews of recent Robyn gigs (in fact just the one, I think, the one a couple of weeks ago in London), reprints of previously published articles on Robyn/Egyptians/Soft Boys, part three of an exhaustive discography, a reviews of 'The Kershaw Sessions' and 'Give It To The Thoth Boys', part one of a Robyn songs A-Z (with comments on each song from whoever wants to write in about them) and a letter from a heavily edited Susan Even. It's well worth having, and healthily unsycophantic. Ordering info, reprinted from the mag, for those who can drag themselves away from their terminals down to the nearest Post Office: "One issue: two pounds fifty pence. Three Issue subscription: six pounds fifty pence. "The magazine comes out about every five months. Orders should be sent to Positive Vibrations, c/o Aidan Merritt, 39 Gabriel House, Odessa Street, London SE16 1HQ, UK. Cheques/POs should be made payable to Aidan Merritt. Subscribers receive regular bulletins detailing what's going on with Robyn and friends. "There are still a few copies of issue 1 and a very few copies of issue 2 remaining, at two pounds each. Issue 1 features reviews of Respect, 1976-81 and the Respect tour, the complete Soft Boys discography. Issue 2 features reviews of Robyn Hitchcock, The Soft Boys and Katrina and The Waves live, lots of articles (including Ian Penman's legendary NME Soft Boys feature), unreleased artwork by Robyn. If demand is high enough, issue 2 will be reprinted again." I got precise overseas ordering details from Aidan: "For US orders, the rates are the same as for the UK but at a rate of 2 International Reply Coupons to the pound, plus 2 IRCs. So a single issue costs 7 IRCs, a back issue costs 6 IRCs, and a three issue subscription costs 15 IRCs." I assume rates are similar for other countries outside the UK, perhaps a bit less for Europe, and probably more if you're in Singapore or somewhere like that. And no, you can't ftp the text from anywhere, as far as I know. PS the mag itself says that "it looks like Surfer Ghost" is shaping up to be one of Robyn's better albums;" however, the note I got from Aidan this morning says that "Surfer Ghost has been scrapped (it sounded bloody awful)." What can this mean ? (Apart from what it says, I suppose). Jonathan. [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 9 Aug 1994 10:33:51 -0400 (EDT) From: paul austin Subject: follow-up...oops! To: hitchcock list Does anyone on this list have any solo Robyn shows they can make available? As most of ya probably do, I've got a gaggle of RH & SB stuff but after seeing him live acoustic I've always wanted a tape of a solo show - I really enjoyed it much more than any Egyptians shows I saw, and hearing the few bits I have, like his "Mountain Stage" broadcast, really brings back the buzz of hearing crystal clear live versions of favorites... Also, I've been looking a really long time for Robyn's cover of Roxy Music's "More than Thsi", which came out, I'm told, on a promo disc a couple years back. Does anyone have a lead on where I can get a copy - preferably the disc but at least a tape of the song?... Thanks in advance for any help... I got about 250 of 'em... 150 from memory :) I'll sort it and post or upload so you all can provide your additional comments and songs. Not meant as competition though... I'd welcome information from the magazine as well. It would be great if someone who gets the magazine could at least type in the exhaustive discography! The reviews always make me blue with envy, but they would be nice as well. Still eagerly waiting for more musicians to provide Robyn covers... c'mon Vashty, dust off that guitar... you all know who you are... 'I know you're out there....' It's well printed, looks like what you'd get from an inkjet printer. Some of the reviews/pics are Xeroxed(tm), but on the whole it looks fine. I once tried to get something Xeroxed(tm) in New York, but being English asked for a 'photocopy'. This produced nothing but a blank stare. Was I unlucky, or does the word 'photocopy' not exist in American English ? Jonathan. [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 11 Aug 1994 00:48:38 -0400 (EDT) From: "John B. Beautiful, and mature, and without much of the irony or intentional "strangeness" that he is sometimes subject to...I mean this in the best possible way: he's beginning to sound his age, and it's gorgeous stuff. Probably most comparable to "Often Dream Of Trains" album but more lush and mature... O'Barr, but in one of the scenes, in #3, I think, the lyrics of "Raymond Chandler Evening" are used to set the tone for The Crow's visit to Tip Top's (?) hotel room. The comic books are GREAT, but no other (as far as I can discern) RH content. (It helps to have a drummer who plays like Morris Windsor) So we're definatly up for that one.
