I'm calling the two clubs today to find out. Leave to a non Hitchcock fan not to get the important info down right. Date: Thu, 04 Aug 94 12:48:00 PDT Hello everybody. It's been a while since I've been able to post, but I won't be too verbose. I was wondering about the Hitchcock covers tape. I got on a tree when that was set up, but had to go home from school before my branch could distribute. I was wondering if there was someone out there who would be willing to trade a copy of that with me. I have quite a bit of interesting stuff, including an extra original copy of "Give It To The Thoth Boys" (I ordered 2 copies from Mrs. Wafflehead so I could qualify for the free gift, crazy, I know.) I would be more than willing to part with this in trade. Anyway, I really would like to get this tape so any volunteers would be appreciated. Respond to: wolfem@nwrel.org PS I saw the suggestion that Raymond Chandler Eve. be on the Crow soundtrack. Maybe, but it seems a bit too light in the melody. I think the Vegetation & Dimes would be a much better fit. Would anyone out there in netland happen to have the lyrics (and guitar chords if possible) for the song "Human Music"? (off the CD of "A Can of Bees"). I have dusted off my acoustic guitar and am seriously practicing again and would love to do this song, its probably my absolute favorite Soft Boys toon. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Well, I'm not Marj so it's a bit rude of me to but in like this, but I got a signed (on the label by Robyn) copy of 'Element of Light' and its inner sleeve. It was missing the outer, though. I'm not sure why. Was yours the same, Marj ? Or anyone else ? Jonathan (not on vacation). The poster itself is pretty plain - black and white, A2 size or slightly bigger, with four thoth (ibis) heads on it. Nice doodles. By the way, my local (Birmingham, UK) record shop has a promo copy of Balloon Man in it - plain cover, same track as the album, for 7 pounds. If enough of you are brave enough to share your versions, perhaps we could compile a covers tape tree of another sort. Could be interesting, no? Also, if anyone would be interested, I'd like to compile an info file (not really a FAQ, becuase as woj said, that tends to seem like a put-off to new users, possibly having a flavor of snootyness; "Don't discuss this, it's all been said before." We're not like that! :) If any of you knowledgeable souls (and I know you know who you are!) would care to pool your efforts, I'd be more than glad to try to put all the collective information together. Or would this eliminate a certain air of mystery that surrounds the man? I know there have been covers by somewhat well known bands, one of "Sleeping Knights.." and a couple of "I Wanna Destroy You." Should those be included on a covers tape, if any? If so, I can trade you for copies of them. I have some rather professional decks at by disposal. Let me know if you think these projects are worthwhile, and if you can help me! Rumor has it that Robyn and his merry men have completed or are in the process of completing a new album, working title "Surfer Ghost". I have a solo acoustic show of Robyn previewing the new songs (recorded 7/14/94, St. James crypt). Some of them are: Statue With A Walkman, Techurigo Street, A Happy Bird is A Filthy Bird, and I Something You. Does anyone out there have more info on Surfer Ghost? Specifically, what label the album will come out on (will Robyn use a small indie label as he did for the release of "EYE"?) and when it will be released? I also heard that Robyn was planning on coming to the East Coast this summer with a reincarnation of the SOFT BOYS to play a handful of gigs, but since I haven't heard anything since, I presume that it never panned out. The SOFT BOYS reunion gigs in the UK were a big smash from what I hear. Last question: Is there a mailing list or newsgroup for fans of ROBYN & THE EGYPTIANS/SOFT BOYS? If not, maybe there should be (providing there's interest, of course) What did you think of Robyn's relationship with A&M, how they treated his music, how the ROBYN A&M releases compare to the older indie stuff? I'm just curious as to people's opinions of it all. --------------------------------------------------------------------- John B. He and Robyn are constantly making up and breaking up." Originally the tour was to coincide with the recent reissues by Rykodisk last October, but Rew was recording with Katrina and the Waves, and found the creature comforts of his home in Cambridge more alluring than the road. Since they have a 'lovely new guitarist', (Sean?) according to Robyn, I should think it wouldn't be absolutely necessary to have Kimberly along. I sure hope they can make it over one way or another. > Last question: Is there a newsgroup for fans of ROBYN & > THE EGYPTIANS/SOFT BOYS? If not, maybe there should be (providing > there's interest, of course) I'd be interested, but do we really need one? I guess things will pick up when the album comes out. There are a lot of groups for stupid things, so I see no harm in having one for a worthwhile subject. Who do we petition about this? > > What did you think of Robyn's relationship with A&M, how they treated his > music, how the ROBYN A&M releases compare to the older indie stuff? IMHO, the A&M stuff was quite good but ended up sounding too polished, almost to the point of being preserved, floating there in some kind of thick solution. The older stuff was fresh and direct, though perhaps harder to understand for outsiders (I don't understand those people). I love any Robyn song when it's stripped down to its skeleton. I really, really like the new songs.
