CEEFAX is the teletext service provided by the BBC. It is broadcast on BBC1 and BBC2. Page 657 is updated every week with a listing of what was played on Andy Kershaw's radio show, together with catalogue numbers. sm [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 30 Jun 1994 00:36:58 -0400 (EDT) From: mikester@bix.com Subject: Introductions. . . To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Hey! My name's Mike Breen from Boston, Mass, and I'm new to the Fegmaniax list. I've seen Hitchcock a number of times and am eagerly awaiting a new album. I've heard that he's been dropped from A&M. This really isn't suprising, since A&M were resposnsable for The Carpenters. IMO, Hitchcock'd be better off on a large Indie like IRS. Or a major like Sire. Someone who'll let him do what ever he wants (Heh! If he gets picked up by sire, he'd be lablemates with Lou Reed!). Anyhoo, I'm a musician. I play guitar, sing, and write for the band "Other Days." I lucked out and got a drummer who plays like Morris Windsor 8). I'm working on getting us to cover "I Wanna Destroy You." Fav Hitchcock Album: "Underwater Moonlight" Fav Hitchcock Song: Toss-up between "Kingdom of Love" "Underwater Moonlight" "Madonna Of The Wasps" and "Serpent At The Gates Of Wisdom." ---Mike [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 30 Jun 94 13:03:47 BST From: smeats@lincoln.gpsemi.com (Archaic Marzipan VII) To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: The Moon Underwater Not directly relevant this, but I spotted a pub the other day called The Moon Underwater. I just kind of pictured 'em standing on the running boards of the cars. OK. So the image doesn't work. Still, I'd rather picture him standing on this beautiful old car cruising around then some smoky, now-extinct pub. To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu >The only one that I ever listen to is Underwater Moonlight, >though. I'm just not overly fond of the other albums. Rodney, I figured out the problem with "A Can Of Bees." For me, anyway, I was expecting "Underwater Moonlight" with better bass (since Metcalf played on it). Since it wasn't nearly as brilliant as "Underwater Moonlight," I was disapointed, and didn't get "Invisable Hits" for quite some time. When I finally broke down and got it, I was pleasently suprised that it fell somewhere between "ACOB's" and "UWM." I listen to "Hits" quite a bit and a few weeks after I purchased it, I went back to "ACOB's" again. I realized that it wasn't that bad of an album. Had I gotten them in order (like I was supposed to), I'm sure that I would have enjoyed "ACOB's" much more from the outset. But in the Rykodisk bio of the band included in the SB's boxed set, Robyn himself says, "the 'Can of Bees' LP. . . is great, just as long as you take it in small doses." I couldn't have stated it better myself. ---Mike (just what is a yodeling hoover?) Rykodisk did a fine job of releasing the three official SB albums, and did a two disk "boxed set" of outtakes, rareities, live stuff, the first SB's demo recorded in Robyn's bedroom, etc, with a great booklet chronacleing the history of the band. If anyone would like me to post Ryko's address, I'll gladly do it. They have a catalog you can send for.
