Fegmaniax Digest Volume 2 Number 38 Today's Topics: ------- ------ "Down the Hope" in "Loser" A&M Helicopters Hi there! Soft Boys singles for sale The Loser song - aka "Trash" Trash When was Robyn kicked out by A&M? fegmania? fegmaniax archive and the database record label? tab? time for words [][][][][][][][][][] From: V4vendetta@aol.com To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Date: Wed, 08 Jun 94 02:57:04 EDT Subject: Trash i asked andy about it once, a long time ago, i think it was on the tour for globe, he said it was about journalists.. apparently robyn gets vicious press in the UK, they think that he is derivative and deliberately odd, quirky just for show.. that is why he is more popular here, but here he gets almost no press... he also didn't like the fact that he is always called an oddball or some such thing.... as for covers, i have robyn doing a whole bunch of them.. the only times i have seen others cover him is the R.E.M. version of Arms of Love, which is the first song i ever heard of where the cover came out before the original by the artist.. i had the import single of Man on the Moon about a month before respect, and i knew it was a cover because i had seen an ad in Select magazine where they had a track listing.... the other is by Uncle Tupelo.. on the b-side to one of their 45's they do a cover of "I Wanna Destroy You" and even though i like them, they don't do it as well as the Soft Boys..... i think my fave robyn covers are "Kung Fu Fighting" and "Foxy Lady" that he did as a flexi as Nigel and the Crosses, i think that is from the Bob, but i always store the records apart from the magazines.. oh, well... Considering the way this thread has been going, I'm beginning to believe it was a journalist Robyn was taking a stab at. YMMV. To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Hi! I'd been off the list for a few months, so all this business about A&M is news to me. Can't say I'm sorry, though. I never cared too much for A&M. THey dumped several other good bands, such as The Feelies. So, when did this happen? Any comments from Robyn? Greetings, Sebastian -- Sebastian Hagedorn "Keep passing the open windows!" I was in the fegmaniax fan club when it was run by Trudi, and now I get this letter from England about Mrs. Wafflehead. Now, I have read here many messages about MW, but basically, I don't have time to read all my mail, so I only look for the message that have something to do about tour dates, album/cd releases and the like. I ignore all messages of internal corresponding of members. Well, I just wanted to know more about the MW. Who is running this? --------------------------------------------------- 1. [][][][][][][][][][] From: "Jeff Lawrence" Date: Fri, 17 Jun 94 To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: Hi there! I thought since I'm new to the list I'd VERY briefly intro myself and then ask a question. My name's Jeff Lawrence, and I'm a M.Sc candidate at the University of Western Ontario, here in London Ontario, Canada. Surprisingly, I've only been into R.H/S.B for only the last 6 months! I first heard the Soft Boys on the Rhino D.I.Y. Punk Vol.2 dong "Angiopoise". Then I heard Ryko's "1976-1981" and I was hooked. I've got "1976-1981" and Perspex Island so far and am looking to find a reasonable price for "Can Of Bees", et al. I'm very glad there's a list devoted to this pop icon! :-) Now for my brief question. I did not search heavily through the archive back issues to see if this had been discused, so forgive me if this is an old question? Did any one else on the list see R.H. on his acoustic tour during late April-early May? I saw him here in London at Call The Office and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen (too bad there was no crowd and what there was didn't really care for him it seemed). I was *literaly* 2 feet away from him on stage (some "stage"! - its just a small area about 2-3 ft. off the floor) I was right at the front (there wasn't much competition for the honours I'm afraid to say -sad really). It was great! I can give more details on the London show later if anyone is interested. So did anyone see him? How was it? Let me know 'cause I'm very curious PS: Anyone have some R.H./S.B. ROIO's (recording of indeterminate origin!) that they'd like to trade copies of? If so, drop me a line at jlaw@irus.rri.uwo.ca and I can send you my list (no R.H./S.B. I'm afraid :-( ) Look forward to talking to you folks in the future :-) Slainthe!, Jeff "The only reason Rush Limbaugh doesn't burn crosses on people's lawns is that it would take too much exertion" ** JEFF LAWRENCE (jlaw@irus.rri.uwo.ca) ** Grad Student, Imaging Research Labs, Robarts Research Institute University Of Western Ontario, P.O.
