Fegmaniax Digest Volume 2 Number 6 [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Mon, 31 Jan 1994 20:32:44 -0700 (MST) From: BRUCE%TOYVAX@arizona.edu Subject: nested dreams To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Status: O Hello, this is kind of off the subject matter but. I had a dream that I was dreaming. In the nested dream the Soft Boys were playing a song I never herd. Then I woke up and started writing down the lyrics I could remeber. ( but still dreaming ) . Then I decided to pick up a guitar and try to figure out the chord changes.... my brother started asking me questions and I was distracted. Then I woke up for real. All I could remeber was the first line of the last verse " If you could see through the eyes of God " oh well... bh [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 1 Feb 94 07:19:41 EST From: woj@remus.rutgers.edu (world serve your own needs) To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: Re: nested dreams Status: O bruce, you ain't the only one who has had dreams like that. a few years ago, i dreamt about going to a egyptians gig with jim davies and susan even (illustrious members of this list) in a small, country town in new hampshire. when we got there, i couldn't find my ticket so i spent the show sitting on the hood of my car outside in the cold. i've also had a dream about a new egyptians song, but that one is so hazy now, all i remember is actually dreaming it... +woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: 1 Feb 1994 12:54:30 -0800 From: "Tom Clark" Subject: Sometimes I wish... To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Status: O Sometimes I wish... Hi all, I have a friend who is infatuated with "Sometimes I Wish I Was A Pretty Girl." He insists that Robyn wishes to "root" himself in the shower, even though I've told him that on Hen Robyn says "wreck" and that I believe it's just one of those lyrics that is undefined (like most R.E.M songs). Of course that's his right, but I was hoping we all could give him our impressions. To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Status: O this is probably a breach of netiquette, but i couldn't leave without saying goodbye. i'm packing in my job and moving to the wilds of cornwall, and then travelling in a serpentine and sporadic manner for most of this year. it's been fun and sort of educational, you know, and i'll certainly miss you all. be good josh, leaving babylon on friday. Doesn't it go something like "If I could see thru the eyes of God, then I'd see myself in you." Quite good I thought until Robyn starts singing about "if I could see thru' the fries and cod" which I thought added an unwanted comic element to the lyric. I expect he'd been to the pub when he wrote that bit. sm [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 3 Feb 1994 12:11:17 -0800 (PST) From: "K. Lena Bennett" Subject: Ice Cream Hands To: fegmaniax I'm *still* not getting my digests :( so I have no idea what this group is discussing these days, but I just wanted to pass on an interesting tidbit - I read on a.m.a. someone got a 4-song CD in Australia by a group called Ice Cream Hands. Is this the first example of a group naming themself after a line from a RH song? Lena keb@u.washington.edu "I'm sick and tired of trying to figure out your gestures and I'm sick and tired of wondering what your presents mean I'm gonna take this rabbit into Malibu and he'll chew on sour grass while I gulp down dexadrine." - Mtn. Other bands named after songs, and the original artist: Cocteau Twins (according to legend, from an early Simple Minds song) Gigolo Aunts (Syd Barret) Halo of Flies (Alice Cooper) Rites of Spring (Stravinsky) Bands like Arcwelder who are named after their own songs could be considered a degenerate case. (Arcwelder was called Tiltawhirl, but the manufacturer of the amusement park ride threatened them with legal action, so they changed their name to that of one of their songs.) It would be neat to find a 2nd generation of this type -- a band taking its name from a song by a band that takes its name from another band's song. Other popular sources seem to be movies (Killdozer, The Flesheaters) On a quasi-related note (and to up the Hitchcock relevance of this post) -- There aren't really that many bands that have covered Hitchcock songs that I can think of. REM, The Replacements... that guy who called himself the Prince Of Luxemborg covered Where Are The Prawns, though I've never heard his version.
