Fegmaniax Digest Volume 2 Number 5 [][][][][][][][][][] Date: 24 Jan 1994 14:16:01 -0400 (EDT) From: DARAMSEY@vaxsar.vassar.edu Subject: "Give it to the Thoth Boys", Soft Boys t-shirts, etc. To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Hello...I was wondering if someone out there in this society of dark birds might be able to snag me a copy of the "Give it to the Thoth Boys" official bootleg. Also, I'd really love to own a Soft Boys t-shirt....if it would be at all possible for one of you Robyn fans in England to perhaps get their hands on a shirt for me, I would be very very thankful. :-) Of course, I will gladly pay whatever postage is necessary for either the tape or the shirt... Thanks, DaveR *Teach me foreign languages, but don't give me any food!!!!* p.s.- anyone interested in trading boots, let me know. I have quite a few very good quality tapes.... I've been given a tape of the Mark Radcliffe Soft Boys Session which was on Radio One last week. Although no-one spelled out explicitly who was present, this was a 6 piece line-up with 2 guitarists so I assume Kimberley was on it. It was also mentioned that the 6-piece band played Cambridge and a 7 piece (with Jim on percussion) played for the Wolverhampton gig. Did anyone see the Cambridge or Wolverhampton gig, and if so did Kimberley play ? The above mentioned session included the unidentified song which I mentioned in my review of the Leicester gig : Zipper In My Spine. Does anyone know where this song comes from ? The band also played a version of Acid Bird, which I've always thought of as a Robyn solo song. I was amused by Mark Radcliffe's particularly naff version of Rock 'n' Roll toilet on which he accompanied himself on a Bontempi organ. If anyone wants to know the track listing for the session, I'll post a follow-up to this article. Stephen Meats, GPS, Lincoln, Uk P.S. Did anyone see the Cambridge or Wolverhampton gig, and > if so did Kimberley play ? > Hmmm... I posted something along these lines last week, and heard nothing back, so I think strange things have been afoot with Fegmaniax... The line up at Cambridge was: Robyn, Morris, Andy, Matthew, Sean plus Jim on a few tracks. Furthermore, for the last four (or so) songs of the set, plus all of the encores, Kimberly appeared to rapturous applause. If Kimberly was involved in the Mark Radcliffe session, this would have made three guitarists though, so I would have thought that the sixth person was Jim, Robyn & Sean being the two guitarists. By the way, the version of "A Day In The Life" on the Thoth Boys tape is brilliant. "...somebody spoke and I fell into a coma..." Smith books that Robyn mentioned way back when in some interview? They are wretchedly bad horror stories. Curious to see if anybody found anything in the books even remotely interesting. There's a picture in the archive of Robyn, Andy, and Morris called "vogue.gif" I think. Is that from an article in Vogue magazine and if so which issue? I did look at it, but I don't now recall the birthdate. Dad may have kept a copy (god knows why, but it's possible). There was also a flyer with another Wafflehead address in London for merchandising and tour information. Unfortunately, I didn't grab a copy of this sheet. (&ndy, did you happen to...?) Of the memorabilia, they had in addition to the t-shirts (black with the white crab claws logo that appears on the cds in the new boxed set, both short and long sleeves), some small pins with "The Soft Boys" written on them that apparently Morris had found lying about in his cellar. Of course, there was also the "Give it to the Thoth Boys" bootleg cassette compiled by Andy Metcalfe. I don't recall whether anyone has posted the contents of this set. So here it is: Give it to the Thoth Boys: Live oddities Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians Compiled by Andy Metcalfe (London '93) BL1 Side One: Egyptian Cream (Tempe '92) My Wife and My Dead Wife (Dallas '92) Clean Steve (Dallas '92) Glass Hotel (Minneapolis '92) When I Was Dead (NY '92) City of Shame (NY '93) Side Two: Only the Stones Remain (NY '93) The Live-in Years (LA '92) Globe of Frogs (San Fransisco '92) Somewhere Apart (London '91) Freeze (London '91) Day in the Life (Dallas '92)* All songs written by Robyn Hitchcock Except * Lennon/McCartney Glass Hotel and When I Was Dead are the same verisons as found on the Live Death promo cd. (it doesn't say this, of course) :) The tapes were being sold for 5 pounds each. (=> approximately $7.50 in US currency; 13,50 DM in german currency) I would suggest people try to obtain copies of this via mail order, rather than re-booting it. Morris mentioned something about them not having a contract at the moment when I asked if they'd be releasing anything soon. Susan p.s. let's hope that the "BL1" numbering on the Thoth Boys cassette is an indication that they'll produce more boots in the future. :) p.p.s. any chance that the radio shows they've done in London might be released as something similar to a Peel's Session?
