Fegmaniax Digest Volume 2 Number 3 [][][][][][][][][][] From: Weirdo Subject: Walnut Chords + To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Date: Fri, 7 Jan 1994 17:36:58 -0500 (EST) > > Hey...I was just wondering if anyone had figured out the chords to "It's not > just the size of a walnut" off of the soft boys compilation cd's? I've been > trying to figure out the chord structure, and at points it just gets too > messy to figure out what exactly is going on (at least for me at the > moment....). Has anyone done this? Any assistance would be appreciated. > > shanks, > > ...b Well, I kinda mumble thru but here's some stuff I've gleaned without listening to the song. Intro E -------------------------------- A -0-------4---------------------- D ---0-0-0---0-2h4---4-0---------- G -----------------2-------------- B -------------------------------- e -------------------------------- Then G (barre) E Bm (the "is never enough") "Nobody meets your wants.." - try Bb F Bb F D "member of the Lobster Party..." - try G E D Chorus! "It's just not just the size.." - try these all barred (E form) F# A# Bm D E "of a walnut!" A xx1211(?) <--- this chord is wrong! :) This is all pure conjecture as haven't bother sit down with guitar and song. I know about 20 other songs as well - in the same fashion. Par example: So You Think You're In Love E C#m B A (quick slide to B) E A E A B A B This is just the first bit. Whatever I'm just too lazy to type all the lyrics to follow. Maybe one day! If people can put up with lazy chord descriptions I'll post what I know. I know someone who is selling the original import releases of the albums, and if the Rhino re-releases are the same, I might as well get the import releases. But, if the Rhino's have bonus tracks, then there's no decision to be made! Incidentally, does anyone have the chords to "Caroline Says" as the Soft Boys play it live? I'm having some problems here and there. Speaking of which, there's no Velvet Underground or Lou Reed list, is there? thanks! eugene [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 12 Jan 94 00:07:38 EST From: woj@remus.rutgers.edu (world serve your own needs) To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: archive update i've just uploaded a bunch of stuff including archives from the past few weeks, some interviews that were posted a long time ago by bryan poole, the postscript source for the tape case insert for the original not-on-cd tape and some stories of robyn's to the music archive at cs.uwp.edu. the list archives are in pub/incoming/lists/fegmaniax/digest and the other stuff is in pub/incoming/hitchcock.robyn. eventually, it will all be moved to the pub/music/artists/h/hitchcock.robyn directory where everything else is. also, here's the latest news on the not-on-cd tape. first, i decided to expand it to include all b-sides and whatnot regardless whether or not the track is on compact disc. this will certainly push the set into the two tape regime. second, ny cd player decided to crap out on me. the motor burned out. so...until i get it back from the shop, the tape's creation is on hold. soon as i get the player back, i'll get it finished and sent off to benjamin so that he can distribute it to the tape tree. take care y'all. +woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: 12 Jan 94 08:43:00 GMT From: "DWARFS::SMEATS" Subject: Soft Boys to play Leicester, 13/1/94 To: "fegmaniax" (This is only relevant to UK subscribers) The Soft Boys play the Princess Charlotte in Leicester on Thurs 13th January. I'd heard rumours of Kimberley's non-attendance and spotting Mr Hitchcock loitering in the bar before the gig, I asked if Kimberley was there. "Unfortunately not," said Robyn, "we've got Sean on guitar, and both Andy and Matthew are on bass. It should be loud enough." For those trying to work out who the guitarist is here, Sean Lyons is the short blond bouncy guy with the odd facial expresions who was part of the line up for the last Egyptians tour. So effectively we had the 4-piece Egyptians line-up + Matthew Seligman playing a set of Soft Boys material. The small venue was an excellent setting for an intimate gig, and the mass of heaving bodies boiled over as the band launched into a very pleasurable rendition of "Do The Chisel". They played about an hour and a quarter of stuff spanning all the albums and EPs. Robyn was not up to his usual form on spontaneous stories (but then it was the start of the tour), however he did throw in an improvised song about German wine : "It's bad enough being German without having to drink the wine as well." The use of 2 bassists seemed a little unneccessary. Andy Metcalfe seemed to be doing most of the bass work and Matthew seemed a little pissed off as if he felt that he wasn't really needed."We're not actually the Soft Boys", explained Robyn, "we're the Soft Boys Tribute band. We're not allowed to call ourselves The Soft Boys because apparently we don't own the copyright, so we're calling ourselves The Soft Boys".There where a few shouts of "Where's Kimberley ?" from the crowd. Robyn's reply was as follows : "Kimberley's not here beacause of a dispute between our management and his management. If you want a Kimberley, write to them and they'll send you one". Despite the non-authentic line-up it was a very special and enjoyable gig, but as an ageing friend of mine commented "In the original Soft Boys, Kimberley was the iceing on the cake." Merchandise fans will be pleased to hear that a load of Soft Boys badges ( 7 designs in all ) have recently been unearthed in Morris' basement. These are on sale at the gigs for a pound each or 5 pounds for the set. Soft Boys T Shirts are also available. Some newly discovered Soft Boys and Robyn Hitchcock (solo) deleted old stock on vinyl and c.d. is now available through mail order on a first come, first served basis. I can't remember the exact running order, and there was one song that no-one in the Lincoln contingent could identify, but the following songs were included : Do The Chisel, The Face of Death, Queen of Eyes, Wey Wey Hep-A-Hole, I Wanna Destroy You, Hear My Brane, Where Are The Prawns ?, Leppo & The Jooves, Mystery Train, Kingdom of Love, Insanely Jealous, Underwater Moonlight, Only The Stones Remain, Give It To The Soft Boys I have probably left some stuff out. My memory doesn't work well on a few hours' sleep. I think the support is the same as for tomorrow's Astoria gig. I can't remember much about The Liberty Cage , but I was probably in the other bar for most of their set. Weddings Parties Anything are a sort of acoustic folk/rock outfit from Australia who are signed to the Cooking Vinyl label. I quite liked some of their stuff, but a lot of the songs seemed to go on for too long. This is of course only my opinion, so feel free to ignore it. Something that Robyn mentioned last night was the origin of the name The Soft Boys. Apparently it comes from 2 William Burroughs novels : The Soft Machine and The Wild Boys. So now you know. -------- Stephen Meats, GPS, Lincoln, U.K. : smeats@lincoln.gpsemi.com --------- Cogito ergo sum.-I think, therefore I am. / Sum, ergo edo.-I am, therefore I eat Cogito, ergo doleo. - I think, therfore I am depressed.
