We arrived at 8.00 pm and the hall, which holds about 200, had 6 people crammed into it. I checked the date and realised the unpopularity of RH in the North of England. When I say unpopular, I mean nobody has ever heard of him - 15 albums later... The support were great, an aboriginal couple plus a lone guitar in the background, singing folk/rock songs - ace! By 9.30, there were probably about 100 people present as RH took to the stage, and we mustered a mighty cheer:-). With no messing about, he launched into a five minute momlogue, famously funny, and we soon forgot the man at our feet who was still lying down reading Dostoyevski. It's been a while between the night and writing this, so I can't actually remember what he played, carried away as I was with the thrill of it all. I can say however, that there was a fair old smattering of old tunes to complement the tracks from 'Respect'. Notably, dotted around the set, 'Bass', 'The Cars She Used To Drive', 'Only The Stones Remain', 'City of Shame', 'Kingdom of Love', and during the encore, when he stepped up solo with his acoustic, 'Glass Hotel', and more from the albums I Often Dream Of Trains and Queen Elvis. The set was finished with a moody 'Wafflehead' and I returned home a happy man with my bootleg tape compiled by Andy Metcalfe. The man reading Dostoyevski was buying a t-shirt. I'm seeing him again at Sheffield University on 27th November, so I,ll keep those interested posted. tim. reply to Tim.Caynes@uk.sun.com From jilla70398@aol.com Tue Nov 23 18:31:55 1993 Received: from mailgate.prod.aol.net by geech.gnu.ai.mit.edu (5.65/4.0) with SMTP id ; Tue, 23 Nov 93 18:31:55 -0500 Received: by mailgate.prod.aol.net (1.37.109.4/16.2) id AA17496; Tue, 23 Nov 93 18:19:45 -0500 From: jilla70398@aol.com X-Mailer: America Online Mailer Sender: "jilla70398" Errors-To: Reply-To: Message-Id: <9311231819.tn238286@aol.com> To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Date: Tue, 23 Nov 93 18:19:44 EST Subject: Robyn's Last Stand? I have heard mutterings that "Respect" will be Robyn's last album for a long time - maybe ever - and that he may not be touring again after the dates to support "Respect". Does anyone have any information on this? Jill
