The earlyer laser tracking schemes were not as thorough as the newer models. i beleive most of the earlyer models had one beam tracking where as most use two now. I also had trouble with two discs that would skip. I found that If I put a second disc on top of the other it would then play! Of course the problem was a combination of an outdaterd laser and a disc that was maybe slightly warped..... but new players would play the discs. bh
