Band Leader and songwriter RH was involved in the selection of tracks, fully half of which are previously unreleased. The Soft Boys are considered by some to be one of the most underrated bands of the punk/new wave era of the late '70s and early '80s. Their blend of power-pop and psychedelia went largely unnoticed in its day, though the band's fans remain devoted. For those familiar with Hitchcock's current work with the Egyptians, his often humorous, pathos-filled, idiosyncratic style was already raging with his former band, which inlcuded the Egyptians' rhythm section of Morris Windsor and Andy Metcalf. Rare tracks found on the set include "Where Are The Prawns" and "Psychodelic Love," remnants of an album recorded for the Radar label that was never released; three songs from the band's first recording session; an alternate version of "old Pervert;" demos of "Insanely Jealous" and "Underwater Moonlight;" six live tracks from Lady Mitchell Hall 1978; acoustic live performances from Cambridge's Portland Arms pub, originally released on cassette; and unreleased live tracks from London's Hope And Anchor club that weren't included on the "Two Halves for the Price of One" album. Rather than create a package that would appeal to Soft Boys collectors, the rarities and oddities are blended with some of the band's best-known tracks to create, despite its varied sources, a primer to introduce newcomers to the Soft Boys. No one has mentioned the Mtn Stage show yet, so here goes. Set list: Radio Broadcast Railway Shoes Serpent at the Gates Yip Song Airscape Only the Stones Remain Oceanside Airscape is quite interesting. Sort of half acoustic, half electric, a bit slowed-down compared to other versions. woj writes: >which leads me to another question: has anyone gotten off their duffs and >written something to the address in the _repsect_ liner notes? if you have, >have you gotten anything back yet? how about those who put their name on >the mailing list at the concerts? i forgot to both nights (whoops). I sent a stamped self-addressed envelope to the wafflehead address about 2 months back, but no response yet. Also, if anyone has suggestions on how to contact Robyn/A&M about running the fan club, let me know. I'm willing to take it over for a while. Actually this is true. It's the exact route I took! On another note, get out your hypertext construction kit because I came across this one the other day: While listening to 'Portland Arms' I noticed Robyn rambling on about time and space and such. Out of the blue he says something about "time is round". That stuck in my head for a while until I realized where else I had heard it: "Queen Elvis"! There's the line "Time is round and space is curved, people get what they deserve..." It just struck me that here was a seemingly random phrase he mutters at a show and then it ends up as a lyric some 10 years later. wangbo, Tom From MARTINP@CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU Mon Jun 21 19:37:44 1993 Received: from CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU by wookumz.gnu.ai.mit.edu (5.65/4.0) with SMTP id ; Mon, 21 Jun 93 19:37:44 -0400 Received: from CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU by CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU (PMDF #2326 ) id <01GZNA9OJ41G8WW6X9@CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU>; Mon, 21 Jun 1993 16:28:50 PDT Date: 21 Jun 1993 16:28:50 -0700 (PDT) From: MARTINP@CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU Subject: Raygun interview To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu Message-Id: <01GZNA9OJ41I8WW6X9@CGSVAX.CLAREMONT.EDU> X-Envelope-To: fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu X-Vms-To: IN%"fegmaniax@gnu.ai.mit.edu" Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7BIT Apparently, for various reasons, some of you did not receive the Raygun interview with RH I mailed out a few days ago.
