I'm not sure exact what caused his untimely demise, but I think he passed away a couple of years ago, not too long after the book came out. Interesting side note here: One of the people who pops up in the earlier (i.e., while Syd was in the band) chapters is none other than Peter Jenner, who was the Floyd's manager at that time, and who still feels that Syd was the true talent in the band. Now, of course, he's Robyn's manager, as well as having been Billy Bragg's manager for about 10 years or so now...isn't it interesting how these things sometimes work out? ;-) (It's right up there with Billy getting Penny Smith, the Clash's old photographer, to do pictures for him, isn't it? :-) ) Trying to survive the early onslaught of summer (98 degrees for the past 4 days!), Robin the mad photographer [who found out about Peter being Robyn's manager from none other than Peter's son Kaia--BTW, is the address listed on _Respect_ 6B Bravington Rd., London? He seemed a little peeved. Did he used to play this live...or is he just tired of the Syd comparisons? I'm not familiar w/ the Soft Boys music...a situation I plan to remedy soon...there's a song I remember from the distant past - a really silly thing called "I know where Syd Barrett lives" - was that them or someone else? I remember reading about how Syd used to come to the Pink Floyd shows after he'd been sacked and just stand right in front of D. Gilmour and stare at him w/o blinking for the entire show. Good for him, I say... maybe he & Roky Erikson should think of doing something together. (not acid) Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Mountain Stage broadcast. I'm afraid to call my local NPR station for the time because they'll find out that my membership has lapsed I'm nothin but a miserable freeloader and they won't tell me anything till I send more $$$.
