They did not say where this will be. But this does answer a question that I had always wondered about - in an interview with RH&E back in '86 he mentions wanting to exhibit his art, perhaps in New York or San Francisco. Seems he must not have pulled it off, if this really is his first public exhibit. It'd be interesting to find out what his paintings go for. Cool would be having the painting for one of the album covers (I'd like the GoF one, myself). 3) The July issue of Details magazine will carry one of his cartoons. [I suspect the "Modern Rock Report" may be one of those syndicated things, although read locally by available djs. I can't believe that my local station is clever enough to continually dig up news. Anyone else ever hear the "Modern Rock Report"?] Andy From @mitvma.mit.edu:REWOICC@ERENJ.BITNET Thu Jun 10 07:35:37 1993 Received: from MITVMA.MIT.EDU by wookumz.gnu.ai.mit.edu (5.65/4.0) with SMTP id ; Thu, 10 Jun 93 07:35:37 -0400 Message-Id: <9306101135.AA23894@wookumz.gnu.ai.mit.edu> Received: from MITVMA.MIT.EDU by mitvma.mit.edu (IBM VM SMTP V2R2) with BSMTP id 8200; Thu, 10 Jun 93 07:35:45 EDT Received: from ERENJ.BITNET by MITVMA.MIT.EDU (Mailer R2.10 ptf000) with BSMTP id 4919; Thu, 10 Jun 93 07:35:45 EDT Received: from ERENJ (REWOICC) by ERENJ.BITNET (Mailer R2.05) with BSMTP id 3087; Thu, 10 Jun 93 07:35:19 EDT Date: Thu, 10 Jun 93 07:31:59 EDT From: goya! I find that this is generally true for just about every fan club I've seen -- TMBG send us something once every 18 months or so, maybe, The Little Express (XTC) is sporadic if excellent... I sent SASE's/ IRC's to Thomas Dolby about five months ago, plus so many others I've lost track. It's depressing. On a side track, does anybody know what REALLY happened to Syd Barrett? He lived in a few places for a few years in a pretty crummy state and moved back in with his mother. He's been around a bit and apparently has been improving much recently. He's bald and fat and living on his own in Cambridge. He goes by the name 'Roger Barrett' which is his real name. Syd was a nickname that some say he never liked much. If I >hear another absurd legend out of a baked hippie I'll take hostages. My wife and I were in Cambridge last summer and stumbled (oof) onto a great Syd bio. Basically, Syd's still alive, living, and painting in Cambridge. His mother died some years ago and he's since moved into a place of his own. There was a rumour he showed up at Abbey Road (nee EMI studios) sometime in the 80's w/ a guitar ready to record, but no one received him or knew who he was. The book also had a photo from sometime in the 80's, he looked like a balding, aging englishman. The most recent photo I've seen published was in "Saucerful of Secrets," ... I'm blocking the author's name... also wrote a Beatle book ... died of AIDS ... Neal something ...??? anywaffle... After reading today's earlier posting about Robyn's work going up for sale & display, I had this fantasy of asking Robyn if he'd ever talked to Syd or seen any of his recent work. Does anybody have any more info on when/where Uncle Bobby might have his gala opening? I'm scheduled to be in NY this summer and would go out of my way...
