She asked me to pass along that she will be doing a "Sophisticated Lady" solo show at the Barns at Wolf Trap on February 13, 2008 (that's a Friday!). Tickets for the upcoming season at the Barns go on sale on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 AM. Hope to see you there and hope everyone is having a great summer. Still here, and I know a number of people who are going to the show. I'm guessing Jake Armerding will join them on fiddle as well (he played with them at FRFF, and he's playing a free show at Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage the previous night). There was less chatter on this list about FRFF since Shantytowne (nie Camp Edhead) started their own email list last year (and it gets very busy about this time, good idea not to involve everyone here). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 09:12:57 -0700 (PDT) From: hemisphire1@hemisphire.com Subject: Re: Topic: Will EFO still be putting out albums 10 years from now > to remember all that more vividly} Kerry'll have it all down, though. =) Right you are, I've been slacking (was hoping to get some of the video up on YouTube first, but I need a new capture card, will be a few weeks): 1. The Three Fine Daughters Of Farmer Brown (with Jake Armerding) 2. Irish Dream (with Jake Armerding) 3. Cry Like An Angel 4. Get On Your Knees And Pray 5. Old Dominion 6. And The Rain Crashed Down 7. Baltimore (with Jake Armerding) 8. Drumpire 9. Tom Burleigh's Dead 10. Candido & America (with Dan Navarro) encore 11. The Train Song > Blues workshop---I honestly don't remember what they did besides ending it > with 'Love me like a Man', which was awesome because Chris Smither{who > wrote > it} was also part of this workshop and gave them the green light to do it, > which Julie said made her very nervous, but she NAILED IT!!!!! 4. Eddie From Ohio - Alone 8. Eddie From Ohio - 29 Ways 12. Eddie From Ohio - Love Me Like A Man (with Chris Smither) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 09:21:03 -0700 (PDT) From: hemisphire1@hemisphire.com Subject: Re: Topic: Will EFO still be putting out albums 10 years from now And to address the actual question - I think there will still be shows 10 years from now (and I haven't seen anyone mention Julie's show at Barns of Wolf Trap in February), though I'm not sure about albums. I like what Ellis Paul is doing to raise money for his next album (anywhere from $15 to $10000). Since efo knows him well, if it works for him, they may consider doing the same: In some palace back room in Paris, Mozart would pluck at the piano composing melodic symphonies and operas for the dukes, and the duchesses, kings, and queens. He leaned on these people just as they leaned forward to hear the songs ringing in their powdered concert hall. Their patronage became a co-writer in a sense, they provided the support for the talented wigged-one to have the time, supplies, instruments, and room to produce some of the best music ever written. There would be no Mozart without their generosity, investment and complete belief in his craft. He would bring the songs to concert halls, and the audiences would have the magical feeling that they participated in the process of creation. Queens were transported. Princesses swooned. Kings smiled with satisfaction. I use a guitar and travel around bars, churches, galleries and theatres. No palaces here, but Mozart and I are in the same business, nonetheless. I have about twenty fresh song ideas and am eager to get back in the studio. I should have them all completed by August, and if you come to any show between now and then, you will hear them in concert. Some of them you may recognize already, "Hurricane Angel", "Once upon a Summertime", and "The Cotton's Burning" for example, are fully finished and waiting for a home on this album. Ralph, my manager and I, have decided not to chase down another record label to put this project out. The music industry is so completely usable now for an artist of my scale, that a label seems to be like working for the man unneccessarily. We are eager to see how successfully we can fundraise for the project and promote this batch of songs without the help of an outside label. This way, profits go back to Black Wolf, our label, to help us continue to cultivate projects and foster new and amazing talent into the world, such as we did with Antje Duvekot. I am very excited about these songs, and I think it is among the best batch I have ever harvested before going into a studio. But I need help bringing in the crop. We need tractors, laborers, and scythes. We are seeking community support for the project through a fundraising ladder that will help build this new recording grain by grain. You folks are even more than Mozart's dukes and the duchesses. You are the workers in the fields, helping bring the harvest of songs to market. You can still picture yourselves in the powdered wigs and satin leggings, if that works for you.
