A: We are Dev 2.0, the all-child Devo cover band! http://disney.go.com/disneyrecords/Song-Albums/devo20/ Once I got over my initial reaction ("Fut the WHUCK?"), I got to thinking about other cover bands and tribute bands, the cleverness of their names, and (usually) their gimmicks. For example, there is AC/DShe, the all-woman AC/DC cover band. And Chicks With Dixie, the all-transvestite Dixie Chicks cover band. Here in L.A., we have a Latino Elvis impersonator, El Vez. And, naturally, I wondered: if you had an EFO cover band, 1) what would you call it? and 2) What would your gimmick be? My EFO cover band: "Undead Tom Burleigh", the Goth EFO cover band. - --nicole twn ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 09:30:31 -0800 From: Stephen Spencer Subject: Re: [Edheads] Pretend EFO cover bands On 1/27/06, Nicole Carlson wrote: > > Q: Are we not children? > A: We are Dev 2.0, the all-child Devo cover band! > http://disney.go.com/disneyrecords/Song-Albums/devo20/ > > Once I got over my initial reaction ("Fut the WHUCK?"), I got to > thinking about other cover bands and tribute bands, the cleverness of > their names, and (usually) their gimmicks. Hmmm.... Liz Hurley's Dead - a tongue-in-cheek band that pokes fun at celebrities, rewriting the songs Yankovic style Grate Day - an all-chef group JERM - each of their first initials..... perhaps the covers would be in a slacker style, maybe heavy metal, could even go all out Gwar-style Doin' the Joe - faithful covers at small folk festivals ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 13:06:04 -0500 From: Jim Merullo Subject: Re: [Edheads] Pretend EFO cover bands There's Dread Zepplin, a band that does reggae versions of Zep tunes. Naturally, they're fronted by an Elvis Impersonator. http:// www.dreadzeppelin.com/ Hayseed Dixie (say it out loud), a hillbilly tribute to AC/DC http:// www.hayseed-dixie.com/ Beatallica, a Metallica / Beatles mashup: http://www.beatallica.org/ The most surprising thing about all these bands is how GOOD they are. EFO cover band ideas: The Julie Hendrix Experience. (Foxy Woman of Faith, Irish Haze, etc) The Grateful Ed. EFO songs featuring 90 minute extended jams played for an audience of aging hippies. Edtallica: Featuring "One", a song about a horribly wounded cross dresser.
