A quick plug for yet another Edhead forum: the "ed_heads" community on LiveJournal, which may be found at http://www.livejournal.com/community/ed_heads/ . ("edheads" was already taken, by the Edward Norton fan club. Bastards.) 2. I posted to it yesterday, with a note about Mike's new album. While double-checking the links in that post, I noticed that Robbie has updated his site, with news of a new album, _Songs For Kids Like Us_, due out this very spring! Doubtless more information will emerge as the release date draws closer. Happy Epiphany, and happy birthday to Mr. Michael Clem (40 years young tomorrow)-- - --nicole ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jan 2006 17:34:30 -0500 From: "Benjamin C. We have tickets for the Sunday night show at the Birchmere. I've never been there before and I'm just wondering how it works. I understand it's general admission and you can sit for dinner and then for the show if you go early. How does this work? What time should we show up? Is there parking? Anyone else going Sunday night? Anything I need to know? My sister has never been there either. I'd appreciate any free advice/insight from the locals/veterans. Thanks. - -Derek ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jan 2006 22:54:20 -0500 From: rhiannon giles Subject: Re: First time to Birchmere I haven't been to an efo show at the birchmere, but I have been to a dar show and a few nields/kennedys shows... and it worked the same at them all. You wait in line, then you get a ticket with a number on it at say, 5:30 (just a guess based on the other shows i've been to). Then at the official door time, they start calling numbers. When your number is called you can go in and take whatever seats you want. I can't remember if there is a limit to how many people can go in with you on your number or not. Therefore it is a good idea to get there early... or at least know someone close to you that is going to get there early. Then, before the show they take orders for food and such...and you usually get your food just before the show starts. The annoying thing, although i understand that it is the only way to do it, is that they bring your bill and take your money during the last little bit of the show. So I suggest having your money ready early on, so that you're not unzipping wallets and counting change during an encore or something. I have a love/hate relationship with the birchmere. The sound is great...but it's a little uptight. And while it's great to not have to listen to cell phones going off, or people talking loudly, it's still a little over the top considering THEY are the ones that come and talk to you to take your money during the encores! I also hate they way you're pretty much trapped into eating their food, especially if you don't have anyone to save your place, and you don't know the area very well. 5:30 (at least for the shows i've been to) is the perfectly wrong time to have to be there, too early to eat supper before you go. And the food is overpriced, which is just par for the course for venues that serve food. There is a pretty good amount of parking. Just watch out or you'll miss the place. It's big, and has a good size sign, but it's behind an auto zone (or something like that), so watch out! :) - -rhiannon On 1/5/06, dzecher@comcast.net wrote: > > Ann and I are traveling from Philadelphia to my sister's place in > Arlington next weekend. Then, before the show they I'll second that, definitely show up early cuz the good seats go quickly. Sit somewhere with a walkway *behind* you or you'll be head-weaving around waiters & waitresses the whole show. At least you won't be in heinous traffic - I'm going Friday, and it's a mad dash from Baltimore to get a low number. - -T PS who else thinks Julie's bald head is just sexycool? I think they start handing out numbers at 5, start seating at 6 (it was that way for "What I Like About Jew" in December, which was also a 7:30 show). They do pizza, sandwiches, and burgers well (and the homemade potato chips are good), and they have decent beer. Everything else is a gamble (avoid the coffee at all costs - my wife is a coffee fan and has had all types, and she insists they've filtered theirs through a dirty rag). And for anyone going to Jammin' Java, they work much the same way, just no numbers (and better food).
