I talked to him at intermission and he said he was just filling in where he could, and they're optimistic that they'll be in Charlottesville for their Starr Hill gig on the 21st as scheduled - but it's the first show that hasn't been cancelled, so I guess we'll just wait and see. Anyway, Arlo was fantastic - he had a great sound guy. ~Meg - --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Oct 2005 12:43:17 -0400 From: Ellen Buckley Subject: Re-send of Takeout-for-Julie message For those who missed it, here is the original message: On Sep 19, 2005, at 4:09 PM, Nicole Carlson wrote: > Last week, there was some discussion on this list about getting Julie > & Greg set up with enough takeout/delivery that they wouldn't have to > cook for a while. Well, what I found out is this: personal chef services are required (by law) to cook in your home, which seems awfully intrusive to me. So "home cooked" meals are not going to be an option. But takeout we can do. I'll get a gift certificate from Takeout Taxi, which serves Northern Va (http://www.finefood2u.com/) and Jen Schimmenti has kindly agreed to deliver it to Julie and family. So now all that remains is for people to send me money and trust me to use it for good and not evil. This is a little strange, as most of you do not know me, and I would feel more at ease if I could pass a hat at a show or something, but since there are no shows in the next few weeks, this is all we have. I totally understand if people are not comfortable with this. But it sounds like some are interested, so here goes nothing. If you would like to send via snailmail, my address is: Ellen Buckley 3120 Dunes Drive Ellicott City, MD 21042 I don't have any strong feelings about sending cash in the mail, but obviously keep in mind that Bad Things can happen to cash in the mail, so caveat emptor, or something like that. I also have a paypal account under epbuckley@yahoo.com. I'd like to have the money together by the end of the 1st week of October, so please try to get it to me by the 5th. And for what it's worth, my grad-school-neighbor's daughter (the one whose bout with breast cancer in her mid 30s inspired me to think of this)-- when last I heard, was healthy and strong and still livin' la vida groovy in Winston-Salem, NC. So keep the faith, kids. =) peace, ellen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Oct 2005 13:56:03 -0400 From: "Joanne Nanna" Subject: Tour Of Hope Here I am, a couple of weeks later, still digesting thaw news about our Julie and the challenge she's facing. This is the time of year when I fundraise for the Lance Armstrong Foundation through the Tour Of Hope, and Julie has been on my mind the whole time, especially while I'm on my bike training for the upcoming 50 mile ride in DC. I do a lot of my riding on the Quantico Marine base near where I live. The Sunday after I got the news, I was in the middle of a 45 miler, my longest ride yet, & feeling tired, when I looked up and saw a sign for one of the firing ranges where the troops train. It was the *Murphy Demo Range.* I just laughed and proceeded to ride quite a bit faster for a while. Every year when I rode the Tour, I put the names of those I'm riding in honor of on my number. Every year the list gets longer, and this year I'll be adding Julie's name. I hope some of the strength I feel while riding some how makes its way to her. I'm still taking donations, so if anyone here is interested, e-mail me off list and I'll send you the links. You can donate in Julie's or anyone else's name. All he money collected goes to support research programs, clinical trials, cancer education, patent and family support, and survivor programs. You can find lots more info at www.tourofhope.com. Those of you in the DC area might even want to come out next Saturday to the ellipse and see the finale event. I've participated for the past 3 years, and been a very emotional and uplifting experience. Take care, all.
