The 'some may recall' verse makes the hairs on the back of my hair stand up when they hit it right. But something has always pricked at the back of my neck about it, and coming at the song from a different way I think I finally figured it out. The song structure seems off to me. First, we have the chorus/introduction to the song, followed by the introduction to one daughter, then to another, then the chorus, then introduction to the third daughter. After that, you get the 'meat' of the story, the girls setting the boat out, and then the epilogue (some may recall..) with the chorus after. So, Chorus - Intro - Intro - Chorus - Intro - Story - Epilogue - Chorus. The chorus in the middle of the intro's just seems to disrupt the running narrative, at least to me. Does anyone else see what I mean? Am I just overanalyzing.. well, scratch that, I know the answer to that =) On the FRFF front, I might have to back out. I have some friends back in Charlotte who are moving to the UK, so might trip east might be to their Going Away party. - -john, who is apparently really a geek =) Stay tuned for my next email, where I try to understand Captain Wedderburn's lyrics: Six questions you must answer me, And I will ask them all And you and I in the bed might lie Roll me over next to the wall Roll me over next to the wall What is rounder than a ring, And higher than the trees? And what is worse than a woman's curse, And what is deeper than the sea? What bird sings first, which one's best? Where does the dew first fall, And you and I in a bed might lie Roll me over next to the wall Roll me over next to the wall ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Mar 2005 17:54:03 -0500 From: "Jennifer Kirkby" Subject: Re: A realization wrapped inside a confession Take Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown for what it is worth. A fun song. Death is greener than the grass, Heaven's higher than the trees, The devil's worse than woman's curse, Hell's deeper than the seas, The cock crows first, the cedar buds first, Dew first on them does fall, And we'll both lie in one bed, And you'll lie next the wall. Little did this lady think, That morning when she raise, It was to be the very last Of all her maiden days, For now she's Captain Wedderburn's wife, A man she never saw, And now they lie in one bed, And she lies next the wall. ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V8 #28 ****************************
