My local NPR station, WAMC (www.wamc.org) in Albany, NY, does a syndicated show about women's issues called "51 Percent." I had it on in the background but snapped to attention when I heard the opening strains of "Baltimore." I thought they were just using it as segue music, and was impressed, but it seems Julie is in their "Artist Spotlight" this week. Now I'm doubly impressed. They introduced her by talking about her "crystal clear voice" or something like that, mentioned that she's in EFO, and then proceeded to play the whole darn song. Awesome! They even gave the band's website address at the end. I had no idea the folks at WAMC were so hip and cool. I'll have to send them another donation. They may not feel up to performing your pet song on a moment's notice, especially if it's an older one. Having a bit of advance notice lets them work things out in advance, including things like running through it during soundcheck or integrating it into the set list. Be polite. Consider bribery: merlot is a band-wide favorite. :) (ok, ok, kidding.) - --nicole twn ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Mar 2005 23:39:41 -0500 From: Matthew Sheren Subject: Re: The School of EFO The only time I requested a song, I went up to Mike after a show, and asked if they could play it the next night (60 miles away). The band obliged, and I was happy. I didn't realize it was that easy. Of course the hard part is deciding which of their many terrific songs I want to request.....
