One of these friends teaches an Intro to Sociology class and is now using the lyrics for Fly and Independence, Indiana to generate a discussion on symbols and how our socialization may alter the interpretation of these symbols. I started thinking about the wide range of academic disciplines covered by EFO: literature, history, physics, astronomy, political science, religion, psychology, animal husbandry. . .and many more. I teach English and have considered using Candido when covering works by TC Boyle (who wrote the book which inspired the song). Are there any other teachers, or students, who have used EFO in their classes? Or if you are out of school and had to go back (heaven forbid!) how might you sneak EFO into a paper? Just food for discussion.
