Hi John- Glad to hear EFO is coming to your neck of the woods. I don't think you should panic, though - I'm sure it will all come back to you. I was lucky enough to see the band on two consecutive nights last week here in western MA - One night at my hometown club, Club Helsinki and then the next night in nearby Albany, NY. Both shows were spectacular. In fact, maybe you should come over to this coast in December ANYWAY - A couple of extra EFO shows never hurt anyone! I'll definitely be at the IronHorse, and might schlepp all the way out to Somerville for that show, too. Hey, it's closer than Virginia. To answer your questions: 1) The Joe seems to vary a bit by region. I've twice seen Mr. Murphy himself perform The Joe in Virginia. Down there the Joe is an alternating pumping of the fists straight up and down in the air, from shoulder level. Up here in the Northeast, The Joe seems to have morphed a bit into a slightly wilder, more enthusiastic pumping of the fists. Sometimes it even looks sort of like shadowboxing. 2) "Cooking" ?? I'm afraid that might have been before my time. I've not heard anyone shouting that out in the two years I've been an Edhead (18 shows in that time, though - not bad). What song was that for? 3) Yes, we still do the eroding mountains. Although last week at the Albany show, when it came time to make the the mountains, I was the ONLY ONE IN THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE to do so. That was fun. Julie quickly pointed me out and then made everyone else join in, so I hopefully came off as a real fan rather than just a freak. 4) Jello shots, now there's an idea. 5) I think that "The Bird" is a song clearly in need of some hand motions (Shake your fist, blow me a kiss, etc.) - See what you think. I think it would be fun for us all to agree on some hand motions and spontaniously start doing them. You know, just to play with their heads a little. I hope your show(s) are great - Enjoy! Heheh, I remember that one, at least partly. It's for the train song. "if this song were country" COOKIN! ........ "but this aint no country" COOKIN! Evidently Julie worked at a place called "country cookin'" at some point, and the boss was a bit of a jerk, i believe. So at some point that story was told, and the train song was sung, and history was made. When I first heard it, mike was telling the story and suggested that we all yell out cookin! at the right time. I very rarely hear anybody yell it anymore, though i always kinda mouth it / whisper it under my breath. The joe is definitely still done. But it varies by audience. The closer to DC you are, the more it is done, it seems. But at the cat's cradle in NC I was pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of people do the joe. So i decided to do it, whether anybody else did or not, in greenville, SC. I saw one other person do it, all the way on the other side of the crowd. My friend saw me do it, and then saw that guy do it, and then looked confused. :) Good times, good times. - -rhiannon At 02:19 PM 11/6/2004 -0500, Laura Hudson wrote: >2) "Cooking" ?? I remember at my first EFO show in Charlottesville three years ago being absolutely surrounded by people doing what I only later learned was the joe. It started as a feeling of terror, then confusion, then envy that I was not a part of this elite inner circle of fist pumpers. Now my favorite part of a show is watching the first-timers squirm like I once did... :) ~Meg - --- rhiannon richard wrote: > Heheh, I remember that one, at least partly. For those going to Riverhawk this coming weekend, we should figure out a time and place to meet. My work schedule and budget (and Norah Jones the night before) will only permit me to attend the Saturday shows, but it looks like I will make both the afternoon and evening sets. Who else is attending, and where/when should we meet? Those of us who know EFO (and I suspect there will be relatively few in Florida...fewer than VA or the Carolinas, anyway) need to make our presence known. Looking forward to breaking my eight-year EFO drought! Jason ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V7 #167 *****************************
