I had last seen them at the somewhat "shaky" show at Wolf Trap in August. The Sellersville show was anything but "shaky". The band seemed pumped, the sound was LOUD and clear and the banter was free-flowing. Most importantly, the band looked like they were having FUN. It's a shame the place was little more than half full--but then who even knows how to get to Sellersville? The highlight was the first-ever live performance of Adios Lorena. It's a very cool song and quite unlike anything else in the EFO repertoire. I'm not sure how to describe it. It is dark, yet witty. Bitter, yet whimsical. Abrasive, yet melodious. I guess you'll have to hear it for yourself. I know what you mean. I managed to miss Rachael Davis's opening set due to some extreme misnavigation on my part. The Sellersville Theater is very out of the way, but it's one of those very neat places to go see live music. It ranks up there with Lime Kiln. >The highlight was the first-ever live performance of Adios >Lorena. It's a very cool song and quite unlike anything else >in the EFO repertoire. I'm not sure how to describe it. Second that. It's got spoken word verses kind of like Bowling in the Hills. It's in a minor key though, which makes it dark and kind of twisted, like a song that started as an acorn but grew up in soil that was sort of radioactive. Toooooo cooooool. - -T ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Oct 2004 09:39:59 -0400 From: Jim Merullo Subject: Peter(s)borough Playhouse Excellent show at the Peterborough Player's Playhouse in Peterborough, NH Saturday night. After hearing about the Wolf Trap show and knowing the new album was going to be a bit different, I was a bit concerned that perhaps EFO had jumped the shark and were on their way to the big folk bargain bin in the sky. After Saturday's show I'm no longer concerned. I'm also looking forward to the new album more than ever. They pulled out some older songs as well as some new ones. What was already said about Adios Lorena is dead on. A somewhat haunting song with what I think may be the best EFO lyrics ever. The last few times I've seen them were in the relatively large Somerville Theater so it was nice to see them in such an intimate (maybe 200 seats) theater. As a result the show felt a bit different. Like they were playing in my living room. It didn't hurt that I was in the second row. I don't remember the set list. A few off the new album as well as "Cowboy", "Farmer Brown", "Train Song", "Rocky Mtn. High --> Old Dominion", "Come Together", closing with an accapella number I wasn't familiar with, joined by Rachael Davis. My new crush is Rachael Davis. I have a feeling I'm not alone. I grew up down the road from Peterborough, well, 45 minutes down 101, but anyway, and would love to have seen EfO there. I can remember going to the playhouse as a kid to see a summer theater series for kids. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-edheads@efohio.com [mailto:owner-edheads@efohio.com] On Behalf Of Jim Merullo Sent: Monday, October 04, 2004 9:40 AM Cc: edheads@efohio.com Subject: Peter(s)borough Playhouse Excellent show at the Peterborough Player's Playhouse in Peterborough, NH Saturday night. They sometimes use it as a lead in to Old Dominion. I mean think about it. Rocky Mountain High talks about how great the rockies are. Afterwhich, it's basically dissed by "Old Dominion". Pretty clever, if you ask me. But's that's just speculation on my part. ;) ================ Stuart Benjamin C.
