Kerry ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Sep 2004 11:25:53 -0600 From: "Jonathan Rudolf" Subject: 4 Corners Festival Since the festival ended Sunday night and no-one else has stepped up to the plate, I guess it's up to me to comment on the Four Corners Folk Festival in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Despite the fact that the weekend was a deluge of rain and more mud than I've ever seen, we were treated to some excellent EFO. They closed out the Main Stage on Saturday night in front of a very enthusiastic crowd, and I would say were the most popular act of the festival. There was a large tent in front of the stage, so most people were able to stay relatively dry during the performance, although there wasn't a spare square inch of space in there. Pen and paper were lacking, so I couldn't copy down the set list, but it was a good mix of some old favorites and stuff from the upcoming CD, and a couple covers, such as "Come Together." As best as I can remember, we heard in no particular order: One Stupid American Quick Great Day 1000 Sarahs The Bird Farmer Brown Operator Number 6 Driver Old Dominion The Train Song sorry, can't think of the names of the new ones. with special guest appearances by some members of The Bills on fiddle and accordion, and all of We're About 9. Sunday offered the band in two workshops. Eddie was in the percussion workshop along with Lorne Entress (of Mark Erelli's band) and Kenny Malone (not sure which band he was with). A bit too early for me though. The full band did a vocal workshop Sunday afternoon, doing a capella songs and taking questions from a small but enthusiastic crowd. Again, in no particular order: Little Man Walk Humbly Son A couple covers: It's All Right and Down on the Corner A couple anthems: O Canada and The Star Spangled Banner And at least one or two more I can't think of. This was really nice, especially the question and answer portion of the set, in which questions ranged from where the band got its name to the difference between chest voice and head voice. This was my first time at this festival, and it's definitely one I would go back to. Relatively small and intimate in beautiful country. A little heavy on the mandolins and fiddles for my taste, which was ironic, since the two most popular acts were clearly EFO and the subdudes, both of which had styles different from the "typical" acts of this fest. The band said more than once that this was one of their favorite spots to play, this being their fifth appearance here. We southwesterners have a treat in November, with four shows: Denver, Ft Collins, SLC and Durango. Wonder if anyone else made it to Pagosa. I'd never heard of it, but maybe that just means it doesn't usually host folk bands. Or it's new or something. Anyway: www.12galaxies.com . Apparently it's in the Mission district. Forgot to "Reply All". Here's what I just sent to Nicole only. Nicole, you may delete either at your leisure. Can we get the listmaster here to set a "Reply-To" header in the emails? - ----- WOO HOO!!!!!! NorCal Love!!!! Now if only Jill Sobule would announce her date(s) up here. They SAID they really liked the GAMH earlier this year. Looking at the list of bands playing at 12 Galaxies, never heard of 99% of them. They DID get the 2004 Best of the Bay Area award though. Looks nice. Can't wait. See you guys in December. - -- matte "What you once were, isn't what you want to be ... anymore" Jeff Tweedy On Wed, 08 Sep 2004 11:43:37 -0700, Nicole Carlson wrote: > Both in NorCal; presumably SoCal dates are forthcoming. > > 12/4/04 Kuumbwa Jazz Center Santa Cruz CA 7:30pm > 12/5/04 12 Galaxies San Francisco CA 7:30pm > > We are probably thinking: "12 Galaxies?!" (The nook is set up with the reply to all feature, something personal and x-rated got posted, mod changed, people were unhappy, poll was taken, as per poll results, format was changed back.) Perhaps something similar could be done here, if there seems to be enough interest. nichole Jim Merullo wrote: If my memory is correct that's the way it used to be but there were too many instances of people replying to All when they only meant to reply to the sender.
