Is the track list of the new album out yet/is it public knowledge? I haven't seen it listed anywhere, but maybe I had just missed it. I made up a list of songs they'd been performing over the past year or so below, and came up with 11. The first two are givens because it said on the EP that they're on the new album. And because the album is called "This is Me," I'm assuming it's going to be on the new album. Unless they pull a Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy" or Doors "Waiting for the Sun" and put the "title track" on another album. So that's three, and six left. Part of me thinks that "The Bird" or "No Pain, No Problem" aren't going to be on the album, but that leaves only one song by Mike. Maybe "Cowboy" will be on the album? Yes, the live version on the EP didn't say it was on the new album, but maybe the studio version will be? On the other hand, I think that one of the reasons the EP was put out was to have "Cowboy" released because it's a fan favorite, but won't be on the new album. Doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs, etc. Just a thought. But, there's probably a number of songs that will be on the new album that haven't been performed yet. When Mike opened for Robbie back in May at Jamin' Java, the only released song in the set was "Fifth of July," so maybe one or more of those songs made it on the new album. Just some thoughts, inane as they are. Can anyone tell that I don't feel like working? 1) Baltimore 2) And the Rain Crashed Down 3) This is Me 4) Independence, Indiana 5) The Bird 6) No Pain, No Problem 7) Clear and Present Danger 8) Lady Freedom 9) Fly 10) Walk Humbly Son 11) Backbeat ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 2004 15:47:39 -0400 From: Chris Moesel Subject: How about a review of the EP? Although it's been referenced, no one's really come out and said much about the EP... So... what do you think? For those of us who've not heard the new songs live either, how about a quick description of the songs on the EP (Since "It's just like when they play it live, except they added a fiddle" isn't very helpful to those who've never heard the songs live). This would be super appreciated! Also (and no, I'm not trying to start a super long thread here), if anyone has an extra they'd be interested in selling to me, please contact me privately! I missed the chance to sign up before the show. Thanks! O.k., my review of the EP. 1) Baltimore, the mandolin and violin add a kind of country-tinge, with a little bit of old timey feel to it. Julie's in good voice, sounds forlorn for most of it (that's a good thing). Just kind of a slow, sad song. 2) And the Rain Came Down, kind of a high energy rocker type of song. Whereas Baltimore is slow and sad, this one is quick, high energy. Robbie does lead vocals, sounds great. 3) Cowboy, a typical Mike novelty-esque song. Great in concert, a crowd pleasure, funny, has a good Cowboy/C&W feel to it. Funny, Mike sings lead, Julie and Robbie do back up. It's a good EP, 3 songs, 12 minutes. I've listened to it a few songs already but I don't want to get burnt out. I'll the new songs I've heard the last couple times I've seen them live I've really liked. They're all strong songs, and destined to be classics. Baltimore and And the Rain Came Down are both on the new album, and Cowboy isn't. Cowboy is live, and isn't marked as being on the new album. I don't know if that means a studio version will be? But I doubt it. I kind of have the feeling that the reason that they put the EP out was in order to release Cowboy. Maybe it didn't fit stylistically on the new album, but they wanted it released anyway, hence the EP. Also, it seems that the songs picked were out of fairness. One Robbie vocal, one Mike vocal, and one Julie vocal. But I could be looking way too into it. Not sure if that's the type of review you're looking for, but there it is. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-edheads@efohio.com [mailto:owner-edheads@efohio.com] On Behalf Of Chris Moesel Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 3:48 PM To: edheads@efohio.com Subject: How about a review of the EP? I am writing because a fantastic Vermont-based singer/songwriter, Gregory Douglass, is playing on Tuesday, September 7 at Jammin' Java. Gregory's voice is astonishing, and has often been compared to Angie Aparo (for whoever knows him). He also plays a mean guitar and keyboard. I just saw him this past weekend at a private outdoor show in Rochester, VT, and he was spectacular. Please check out www.gregorydouglass.com and listen to a few tracks. Gregory is an artist on the cusp of success, so catching him at JJ for $10 is a steal. =) Enjoy! Hey, I was on the lawn, and I noticed most of the same troubles that others noted. Personally, my only real disappointment was when Julie changed out of the black dress. But I don't see EFO that often, so YMMV.
