Now, the -total- irony in the fact that I got this -today- is that JUST last night at Bethlehem's famed Musikfest, Mike mentioned and thanked WDIY and said what an influence they were in playing EFO throughout their career. So I beg your attention to/consideration of this matter. There are SO few stations that -play- EFO faithfully and or at all. Let's try to keep the ones that DO around!!! The Matter An issue has come up that is very very scary to those of us who love EFO, Ellis Paul, The Nields, The Kennedys, and all other independent minded artists. Bethlehem, PA's community radio station, WDIY, has apparently come upon some financial and facilities issues. A few members of the board of directors have entered into discussions to allow the public tv station in the area to take it over. (Morning Call newspaper article: http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-b1_4merger-4rjul30,0,85161.story which, by the way, is where the station's -staff- first heard this news...) If this measure is approved, the tv station will get the license, the frequency, the equipment, everything. The station will lose their voice, their independent ownership of a unique radio station our organization spent the last 24 years building, and most probably, their format, which by the way, is winning awards all over the place, including most recently, Best Radio Station in the Lehigh Valley according to a reader's poll of Lehigh Valley Magazine. This could potentially mean no more EFO on WDIY. Or Nields. Or Kennedys. Or Ellis. Or, well, you get the point. If you'd like to help the volunteers fight this, please consider signing the petition at: The link is: http://www.gopetition.com/online/4853.html You can also send letters of support to: WDIY-FM 301 Broadway Bethlehem, PA 18015 And those of you who are local to eastern Pennsylvania may also attend a special meeting on Monday, August 18th, 7pm at Godfrey Daniels Coffeehouse, 7 E4th Street, Bethlehem. The agenda of that meeting is to collect public opinions on this proposal and hopefully, brainstorm a better way to solve their temporary issues. For more information on WDIY-FM and what the station does, you can go online to www.wdiy.org. Thanks for listening/reading. ~ShellsBells~, who WILL post last night's setlist and such later tonight......i think...maybe tomorrow ;) ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V7 #105 *****************************
