PB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 13:06:28 -0600 From: drdread@austin.rr.com Subject: Re: Texas shows Last night's show at the Duck was great. EFO was/is clearly a little rusty this early in the touring season (forgotten lyrics, sync was little off here & there, etc.) but everyone laughed it off and had a great time. They tried out a few new tunes (Baltimore, Cowboy, It's Me (title?)) plus a bunch of older stuff (first time hearing Bones of a Lifetime live for me!) and a couple of covers. I'm not a huge John Denver fan, but Rocky Mountain High sounded great. "Come Together" was truly fabulous. I hope they make a habit of playing that in future shows. I have the set list in my car if anyone really wants the full run-down. I also have a mini-DV capture of the audio from the sound board (thanks Bob!), which hopefully I didn't botch. I'll transfer it to my computer tonight and get a listen at it soon. The opening act (Rachel Davis) was simply stunning. Being an "unknown" opening act has GOT to be the hardest job in the world -- everyone knows the crowd isn't there to see the opener, and at least part of the crowd is going to be of the "get off the stage and let us hear the 'real show'" mentality. Rachel stood up there with her banjo, with the room looking at her politely, and she waited a few seconds for the noise to abate. Then she launched into a thrilling a capella tune that had most audience members gaping in surprise. Her set was short but exciting. This woman has a bright future ahead of her. The Duck was, well, the Duck, although the crowd seemed a little more restless than normal. There was a long table next to Mike's side of the stage, and apparently most of the people sitting at it were first-timers. They must have been particularly chatty among themselves because Mike actually chastised them after the second or third song! Those folks also managed to screw up the ending of "Old Dominion" by singing the words waaaaaaaay out of time; it threw Julie off so badly that she basically waved off the end and tried again (and again) before gettting fully synced on the third try. Very strange. All in all, it was an EFO show -- I'm happy no matter what goes on during the show. I'm also looking forward to Saturday's show at the Cactus Cafe in Austin. That place is one of my all-time favorite venues for live acts. And I don't have to drive down to Houston to see the show. :) D - ----- Original Message ----- From: PBacoustic@aol.com Date: Friday, January 16, 2004 12:26 pm Subject: Texas shows > Any feedback on last night's show?
