My equilibrium is SO screwed up! The water in my brain must be still sloshing to the rhythm of the boat because I keep tipping over. Where to start . . .HOB? Jane? Represent Baldy? The signs of Monotony? The 3 Fine Farmers of Daughter Brown? I'll start with the House of Blues--This was part of the pre-cruise package and actually my favorite show. The Parish room was packed with dancing Edheads and they provided a very energetic light show and great acoustics. I don't have the set list, but I'm sure it will be posted (Shel?) One highlight was Robbie trying to keep his "composure" while Helen did a sultry dance behind him, using a feather boa as an accessory. A post concert Helen complained that we didn't stop her, but of course we were egging her on. Also Robbie had an NO experience while he was entering the HOB with his guitar case. There was a grizzled older gentleman passing by and upon seeing Robbie he commented "Represent. . .Baldy" The band (particularly Michael) and the Edheads embraced this anecdote and it became a mantra for the cruise. In fact, he may be considering it as the title of his upcoming live cd ;-) The cruise itself was about as good as any Carnival Cruise has been (read into that what you will)--what makes it worthwhile is seeing the band and getting to know other Edheads. One of the highlights of the cruise was spending time with Jennifer Horak, Edhead, tango dancer, and sign language interpreter extraordinare (and my roomie!). Some may recall her from FRFF and she was pressed into interpreting during the all request concert on Friday night. Mike set her up, by asking her beforehand to sign a song during the concert, but not telling her which one. I think she imagined something slow and melodic, like "Oh My Brother," when in fact he called her up to do "MONOTONY"! It brought down the house! A comment was made by someone that they had never liked Monotony, until Jennifer signed along. It is difficult to describe exactly, but Jennifer has such a flair for performance that the lyrics about being a cracker salter, and firing a missile, and growing so fa-a-a-t took on a whole new visual level. But the best moment is when Mike flubbed some of the lyrics (partly because he was watching Jennifer) that she just made a "blah, blah, blah" talking motion with her hand while rolling her eyes. An unforgettable moment. Then there was Jane. Jane (whose last name no one really got) is the piano bar performer in Rick's Cafe (or Farkle's as Michael called it) on the cruise ship. Jane is notable for her curly red hair, bad jokes, incredible piano chops, and not-so-incredible vocal ability. Every evening culminated in 50 odd Edheads and band members descending (literally) to this small bar which generally has no more than a 1/2 dozen people at one time. It then became the Jane/Michael Clem variety hour, with appearances by Robbie, Julie, Joe Murphy, Joan and others. Between soloists, the Edheads would belt out everything from the Beatles to Barenaked Ladies. A particular favorite was a raucous version of Bohemian Rhapsody every evening. Lots of other stuff happened and lots of memorable moments and stuff that I've forgotten to include, but I'll stop for now and let some others share.
