Does anyone know what (if any) the story is behind Mike's song "Abraham?" I understand all the biblical implications, but is there a personal story there or was Mike "just writing a song?" Also: I noticed that Mike seems to be playing a fretless bass....but in some of the pictures I took at the Austin "show" you can sorta see the frets. Is this gizmo really fretless or are the frets just really dark so they blend into the fretboard? Finally, I got a mostly-breathless call last night from my Mother, who lives in Albany. The last time she came to visit me in Austin I had some EFO on the stereo (natch) and she was hooked. So she went to last night's show in Troy at my urging, and came away thoroughly sold. Keep in mind that she's 62 years old and < 100 days from retirement....and she called me on her way home from the show, glowing about how great they were in person. Cha-ching! Ring up another sale! :) D p.s. I still haven't sliced up the tapes from the Houston show to turn into CDs yet. I have some kick-ass cover art for the disc but time is really short when you're trying take a startup from zero to profitability so I just haven't managed the time for processing the miniDV tapes from the show... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 09:30:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Matthew Velazquez Subject: Re: Abraham >Does anyone know what (if any) the story is behind Mike's song "Abraham?" >I understand all the biblical implications, but is there a personal story there >or was Mike "just writing a song?" It's about sacrificing a son, which sometimes happens when your wife bails out and moves to the U.K. with your kid. This point was somewhat lost when they first started playing the song at shows, because it coincided with Mike's new "Lincoln" look. Speaking of dead presidents, find a $20 bill. Look at the guy on the front. Is that not Mike? - -T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 06:31:51 -0700 (PDT) From: David Fonzi Subject: Re: Abraham? I spoke to Robbie once thinking it was one of his - I have since started reading my liner notes. He said it was very personal but you'd have to talk with Michael directly to get the story. From his tone, it sounded like there was something quite serious behind it. I haven't had a chance to ask Michael yet. - - dave Dave Read wrote: Does anyone know what (if any) the story is behind Mike's song "Abraham?" Rock on about your mom, Dave! I've been trying to get my parents to go to a show with me since last summer. They're big country fans, but I figured they'd love the EFO sound if they ever heard enough of it, and I'd rather come home to Julie's voice than Dolly Parton's. While driving my mother around Charlottesville yesterday she mentioned that she loved the CD I was playing -- Actually Not. So I mentioned to her that they were playing a show in Lovingston next month and I'd be glad to take her and my father, and they actually agreed! Rah! They still have more than two weeks to back out of it, but I think we'll all be there. Good times. Meg The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. That's really sad. Doe he have any contact with him at all? > Also: I noticed that Mike seems to be playing a fretless bass....but in some of the pictures I took at the Austin "show" you can sorta see the frets. Is this gizmo really fretless or are the frets just really dark so they blend into the fretboard? Sometimes on fretless basses, lines are painted on the fretboard where the frets would be to make it easier to play. It's possible that you're seeing these lines in the photo. The last time I noticed what Mike was playing, it was a fretless Yamaha. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 10:05:30 -0400 From: Clay Chilcoat Subject: Re: Abraham > > Also: I noticed that Mike seems to be playing a fretless bass....but in >some >of the pictures I took at the Austin "show" you can sorta see the frets.
