Harummmph! But seriously, I receive e-mail from a variety of sources. If I had to browse around to every one of those sources, it just wouldn't happen. There aren't enough hours in the day to waste on all those extra clicks. Instead, I have multiple folders and rules that direct incoming mail to those folders, depending on source. More importantly, that allows me to separate incoming mail by priority. When I have time to read edhead mail, all I have to do is click on that folder and, voila! Edhead mail! Click. Nields-Nook mail. Click. NanciNet mail. Etc. Harummmph! Heh, I agree. I don't understand why people sign up to a mailing list and then complain when they get mail! I do the exact same thing - have filters set up and read what I want when I want to. I can download my messages to OE and not have to be connected to read the messages if I'm travelling. Forums are good in their own way, I guess. But I prefer mailing lists, which is why I signed up to begin with. Maybe a "best of both worlds" kind of thing would be to move the list over to something that allows for archiving of messages. Usually, in other groups, you have the option of receiving digests if you don't want individual messages sent to you, or of not having messages sent at all and you can view them online. This way, those that want the mail sent to them will still get it, those that don't can look online. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Not to negate anything that the original forum-creator guy said or did, but one option might be a Yahoo group - -- I don't much like their web-based interface, but you have the option either to read messages on-line or to have them delivered to e-mail, individually or in "digest" form.... While I can appreciate the work you've done setting this up, I hope it doesn't take traffic away from the email list. I'm already a member of a couple forums and between them they take up a whole lot of my company's time. The amount of traffic we get on this list is low enough that it isn't an issue. I'd rather not have to continually check a website for any updates. Thank you for your efforts, but I'll stick to the email list. EDHEAD FORUMS!!! I'd have to agree-- I'd be sad if the EFO threads started going somewhere else besides my inbox. I live in my inbox... A better alternative to Yahoo (in my opinion) is Topica (www.topica.com). It doesn't put huge (sometimes offensive) ads at the top of the emails it distributes. For email users it would be no different than the current list is, except you could choose to receive digests instead of each email individually. But users would also have the added option of browsing messages on the web. The best thing, as mentioned before, is that emails contain no additional appended advertising-- all of the advertising happens on the web, and its not really intrusive there either, so.... That's just an idea... - -Chris Jim Merullo wrote: >While I can appreciate the work you've done setting this up, I hope it >doesn't take traffic away from the email list. In that case-- if you want a web interface to the list, get a free web-mail account somewhere and subscribe it to the edhead list and nothing else at all-- it'll be your own personal edhead forum! - -Chris Chris Moesel wrote: > I'd have to agree-- I'd be sad if the EFO threads started going > somewhere else besides my inbox.
