We were looking for advice from experienced Falcon Ridgers about best camping (or where Camp Edhead will be located if one will exist) and food and beverages. Apparently, no glass containers allowed. Are you allowed to bring alchoholic beverages? If no open fires, are campstoves allowed or are you better off buying food from the vendors? What about breakfast food, etc? Any ideas, tips, etc. would be appreciated. Also, when is the best time to arrive/leave? ============== Stuart & Janice Jewell ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 May 2003 21:29:57 -0400 From: "Chris OMalley" Subject: attn: cruise-goers Hi all, This is the first time I've posted to this mailing list. :-) I've been on the first two Edhead cruises (what a blast!) and am planning on going on the third this November. I'd like to register before the end of May so I can get the "surprise". Problem is, this time I have no one to go with! :( I'm wondering if there are any other edheads in my situation and if someone would like to split a cabin. I haven't contacted the cruise line yet to see if they could match me up with someone...I figured the mailing list would be a better place to start. I'm pretty laid back, and only plan on being in the room to sleep. Most of the time I'm sure I'll be wandering around Mexico (or in the ship playing blackjack :) Well, if anyone is needing a roommate, or knows someone who does...drop me an email. :) Thanks, Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 May 2003 21:29:13 -0400 From: rhiannon richard Subject: Re: FRFF Camping And Food camp stoves and grills are excellent ideas. vendor food is very expensive, though sometimes it's yummy. bring breakfast food, that way you can eat before you get to the stages. I'm not sure about the rules at the stages, but in the campsites i've never seen any problem with glass containers. Also, we drink plenty of alcohol while there, and i'm not sure that there's an official policy. Just none at the stages. When in doubt, keep any questionable anything confined the campsites and you shouldn't have a problem. - -rhi At 09:22 PM 5/6/2003 -0400, you wrote: >Hi, > >My wife and I are going to do the Falcon Ridge gig this year. (We come with kids, so you'll find us in quiet camping. Of course at FRFF "quiet" is a matter of degree.) It's true no glass containers, also true that no one is likely to enforce the policy -- but as they say on the website, it's a working farm with horses, so it is very very important not to leave any broken glass, and that is the reason for the policy. I believe the flyer says that there is a "no open container policy with respect to alcoholic beverages." I interpret that as "don't ask, don't tell." Some vendors are _open_ for breakfast, although as Rhiannon says they are kinda pricey. One nice feature is the Falcon Ridge food tent, where it is possible to get real food (including breakfast) at reasonable prices. But bring-your-own is a great choice, especially if you can meet any caffeine needs you may have with your cookstove (absolutely allowed). Best time to arrive? the festival has never officially started on Thursday before, so maybe we're not quite sure. I guess early-bird camping will open Wednesday, midday depending on when the wrist bands arrive. (Y'all check my fading memory on this.) Best time to leave? We usually feel kinda baked out by early Sunday afternoon, but that's with kids; if you're not in a huge hurry to get out, the traffic generally flows pretty smoothly, so there is no bad time to leave. Open secret I wish we had known a few years sooner: the state park south of Hillsdale (about 4 miles on Route 22) is a great place to swim and cool off.
