The Blackfriars management has decided to allow only four amplified shows per year, and EFO is definitely on for this year. It was one of my most memorable shows of 2002, and a great venue (an exact replica of The Globe Theater), I highly recommend the show. Their banter was on full force that night - Robbie's story about Ethan wanting to be Santa, the Dreidel song complete with Shakespearean innuendos, all the Shakespearean references in the band review at the end of the show, Robbie's intro for Michael: "He's a manly man but he has a soft side too, his dream is to play Kate in the Taming of the Shrew". At one point Michael and Robbie gave a background to the audience that Michael, Robbie and Eddie went to school at JMU but that Julie was from just down the road at VA Tech - a pause for applause - and then Robbie quipped - that's all we wanted to know so we could beat you up after the show. Near the end, Michael had a choice quip about one email the band received from a man who had been to the Limekiln (I think) who was angry that they played 3 religious songs in their set. This, despite the fact that they were an interfaith band - two catholics, a jew and a percussionist - can't reveal the advice Michael gave him though ... they finished their encore with an peaceful, unplugged rendition of Silent Night from the balcony which was simply inspiring. I made the trip down from the Boston area for that one and glad I did - now I get to see them a lot closer, this Friday at the Berklee in Boston itself - can't wait ... - - dave John Clem wrote: Hi Edheads, According to my sources, The Blackfriars Playhouse gig, in Staunton, VA is still a go.
