[Beth Simons ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 07 Mar 2003 23:28:55 -0600 From: Marty Hood Subject: EFO In TX Well EFO is on their swing to Texas, tonight in Austin. They normally play the Cactus Cafe when they visit Austin but it didn't work out this time. So, they played an in-store at the Border's in South Austin. The set was shorter than usual. However, it was very nice and intimate. Mike promised us we could get a refund if we weren't satisfied! ;-) They played (straight from the set list): Woman of Faith Number Six Driver Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Robbie: from an up-and-coming folk singer you'll be hearing a lot of ...) Not Enough Gold in the World Atlantic Irish Dream (Mike: With Arbor Day just around the corner ... something about EFO is 1/4 Irish ... and their Irish song is by a Jew. ;-) This is My Town At this point, they had already exceded their 30 min. allotment so there was a little chatter as to whether they could add songs. Mike noted there were a couple of parents with hungry babies and suggested the parents could pick up a copy of "The Breast Book". There was some tittering around the audience and then Robbie remarked he thought they "could squeeze in two more" (there were two more songs on the list). Now the snickering really started and Robbie realized his unintentional pun and admitted that as much as he would like to take credit he couldn't. He went on to add that when a bald guy blushes, you see it. After a quick thumbs-up from the Border's music lady, they played two more: Quick and Old Dominion (with an extended introduction rif on state songs and how the TX state song is always recognized while the old VA song is a tad antiquated and this was their entry to the "replace the state song" contest.) [It would have been unseemly to way lay Mike, but for those of you not graced to live in the great state of Texas (yeah, we're kind of overbearing) ... our state song is "Texas, Our Texas" not "Deep in the Heart of Texas".] The crowd was subdued but enjoyed it very much. Plenty of folks bought a copy of "Three Rooms" (as well as other discs) and got the John Hancocks of everyone. I always enjoy "Quick" & "Old Dominion" and tonight was no exception. But my favorite tonight was "Don't Think Twice". Robbie & Julie traded off verses and that was really a nice contrast. My lovely bride suggested there should be an album of Dylan covers that are better than his versions and she wants to nominate this first. [Not meaning to start a holy war.] That's it from Austin. They were in Houston (Mucky Duck) last night and in Dallas tomorrow night (Gypsy Tea Room). It sure would be nice to hear about those full blown shows. Here's hoping they can do a full gig next year. Here's hoping they can do a full gig next year. I drove down to Houston on Thursday to catch the Mucky Duck show. It was awesome (duh). I have tapes of the show but I have not imported them to my computer yet so I don't really know how well they came out. If they're good enough to be worth distributing, I'll make CDs for anyone who is interested. The fun thing about the Houston show is that I took my new toy with me -- a Nikon D100 digital camera. We had a front-row table at the Duck so I was able to get some fairly decent photographs. The lighting situation was... umm......"challenging" so the results were not as good as I would have liked. I respected the "no flash photography during the show" request, which in turn means that the light was (a) dim and (b) colored by the stage lighting, so I have some work to do before I share any of the pix. I'll post more details about the Houston show when I get a chance. We're taking the kids to the zoo in about 10 minutes, so I need to run. Now if I could just talk my wife into driving the whole family up to Dallas tonight.... :) D ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Mar 2003 13:43:01 -0500 From: Beth Simons Subject: EFO: the boot page? where did edheads.efohio.com go?? or better yet, does anyone know of any existing recordings of independence, indiana? i'm doing a theme show for acoustic pickups tomorrow--a musical road trip. all songs about places and/or travel. i've got a great list, and i'd love to add indy, indy to the mix...otherwise it'll be MN1945, which is still a fantastic song, but indy, indy's got the whole novelty factor. :) hmm, i wonder if it's even kosher to play boots on my show...clem? care to confirm or deny? - --beth dj, acoustic pickups on wunh singer-songwriters and contemporary folk sundays 4-5pm listen online at www.wunh.org ! <>o<>o<>o<>o<> Beth Simons beth@simons.mv.com Durham and Merrimack, NH (and St-Brieuc, France, at heart) "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be." --Douglas Adams ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V6 #44 ****************************
