After one listening...I like the banter at the end of the 2nd disc also. After repeated listening banter can get old, so this way we get to hear it but then listen to the music straight through. It's great to have another live CD - I think there is always something a little special in their live performances (of course its best to be there) that doesn't always make it to the studio. The keyboards and horns add some color and energy. I love the version of Operator. Great closer. First of all, thank you to the band for only putting one repeat on this offering from Portable, being Operator, and this Operator is the enhanced version with the gospel rave-up coda. Secondly, this disc makes a very good companion to Portable, as you have the stripped-down EFO on Portable, yet 3 Rooms has the enhanced, full-blast, super size EFO. I unfortunately was not at any of the shows listed on the disc, so this was especially appealing to me. the closest I got was the show at the Bowery with just one of the Johns. Although at that show we did get a great jam on "The Weight" with the Kennedys. Speaking of the Kennedys, listening to 1000 Sarahs reminded me of the performance of this song with the Kennedys, one of, if not THE highlight of Falcon Ridge. When Julie screamed, "She oughta go to hell!", it just brought the house down and set the tone for the rest of that kick-ass set. The performance on 3 Rooms brings back that memory, complete with the extended jam at the end. I FINALLY get to hear what the horn section adds to the band. Including the new horn parts written for Concubine, fulfilling Clem's dream of a ska-folk "skolk" song. Because you CAN'T have ska without horns! And with the instrumentation on it, it makes it sound like you've got the horn section from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones backing them up. I burst up laughing at the "LOVE ME LIKE A MAN!" comment. I bet a billion comebacks went through Robbie's and Clem's minds at that one, they just had to pick one. Bang up job on this one, and here's to looking forward to the new songs in the setlist and the new album to follow. Can ALWAYS use some new EFO music to learn. Take care folks until B.B. King's and possibly a return to NoHo! - - John J.
