Namaste, will i didn't take will up on the game because i have a number of efo shows already (albeit not the one will offered) and i thought other people might enjoy his show more than i might, especially since will's recordings are usually top notch. but since it's still a fun game, i did think of two ways to go from efo to lyle lovett in two steps. sadly, neither of them will seem that original, since you mentioned them both, will. first, you mentioned sam bush as a link between bela and lyle. mr. bush himself appears on fishbowl, lending his mandolin and fiddle to 'old dominion,' 'irish dream,' and 'bonnybrook.' you also mentioned the possibility of a link with jerry douglas. there is. mr. douglas appears with lyle on his album, 'step inside this house.' by that token, i suppose there's a possibility that tony rice and lyle lovett have collaborated at some time, but i couldn't tell you when. and as for mr. douglas' prolific studio work, his website contains a searchable database of his appearances that has something along the line of 600+ albums! so he seems to be a fairly likely candidate for the lowest bacon number. but i agree with you, will, i would imagine that there's a session musician that might have him topped in breadth of genres, making him or her a more a likely target for the bacon game purposes. as exciting as it must have been for the efo clan to get contibutions from musical luminaries on the order of bush, douglas, fleck and rice, i seem to remember hearing at the time that they never actually ended up with them in the studio... that billy wolf had the connections and got the four to record their tracks at a separate session. in my head, though, they're still all in the same room when they kick into that tremendous cascading breakdown in 'old dominion.' and you can't convince me differently.... y'all have a great weekend and a safe week if you're traveling for the holidays. cheers, matt ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V5 #243 *****************************
