Hey y'all, I'm listening to When I Go...again, and I was thinking that I really wish that I really wish I had something more to listen to (I mean besides the trhee studio albums. I have all three.) and it occured to me that someone must have a boot...or a few boots. I never got to see them live. Seemed like something always came up and there would always be more time. There's a lesson it that. Can you e-mail me? As always, I have much to trade if I can just figure out how to track by myself. Ben has it down, but he's a busy guy. :) Joy Elyse Yahoo! But that's another long story ], I thought I'd pose a few answers. Lyle Lovett's "Bacon Number" relative to EFO is 3, it seems. No one could find a shorter path than 3. Here's the answer I got in response: EFO->Bela Fleck->The Chieftains->Lyle Lovett However!! I also had thought of another pretty inventive one... EFO played with Bela Fleck on Fishbowl. Bela Fleck played with and won a Grammy with Edgar Meyer for his work on Bela's solo classical album "Perpetual Motion" [ for the liner note curious, he's a bassist, a darn tootin' good 'un too, and the album won 2 grammy's, one for "Best Classical Crossover Album" or some such, and another for an individual song, the award title for which eludes me right now ] Edgar has played several times with Lyle Lovett as his bassist when he needs a doublebass player, notably, on I Love Everybody [the album], and on The Road to Ensenada [ I think ]. [bela also played with Edgar on Mike Marshall's Uncommon Ritual, and they did a tour for the album in 1997. killer shows, and great album. If you like your bluegrass classically flavored, or wanna try a new taste, it's a good one! Bela also teamed up with Edgar if memory serves on Double Time a series of duets of banjo and... ] OR EFO played with Bela on fishbowl Bela played with Sam Bush et al on The Bluegrass Sessions:Tales from the Acoustic Planet II [ as well as on Double Time ] Sam has played with Lyle several times, including live in Greensboring [ I mean Greensboro, NC ] a few years ago on mandolin. There's probably a path featuring Jerry Douglas, but I'm less certain of that one. Someone at UVA or one of the other VA area colleges in their math department about the concept of Bacon numbers [ ie, the Kevin Bacon game ], and found that while there exist a few actors whose Bacon numbers are greater than 6, they are VERY few in number. The average Bacon number for any actor is < 3. Interestingly, Kevin Bacon does not have the lowest average "bacon number". That honor belongs to.... Wait for it.... Wait for it... Sean Connery [ as of 2001 ]. His is a couple of tenths less than Kevin Bacon's. What I'd be interested to know is what musician has the lowest bacon number. If I had to guess, I'd say someone like Jerry Douglas [ do a search for him on half.com or amazon.com, he's on some unbelievably large number of albums as the guest dobroist. ], or perhaps Bela Fleck. Most likely, it's some session musician we've all heard the work of, but just can't quite put his name in our heads, but at the tip of our tongues. Enough math for the night. Just thought some of you might like an "answer" can anyone beat 3? I'd love to hear some tries.
