This from http://www.classicbands.com/youngbloods.html : "Get Together" .... This Dino Valenti song had previously been recorded by the Jefferson Airplane, but The Youngbloods' slow, soulful interpretation of "Get Together" was definitive. The record faded quickly but suddenly rocketed to the Top 10 when it was re-released in 1969, after it had been used in a television public service ad. The tune was subsequently adopted as a counter-culture anthem. OK, probably more than you really wanted to know... Also, "The Best of Me" was a request made by my brother Pete and me, in honor of our 80-year-old dad, who up until then was an EFO virgin, but had heard lots about EFO over the years. At the SF show we asked Robbie to dedicate a song to him, as we had plans to take him to the Santa Cruz show. Robbie did an excellent dedication. But it was so nice to see familiar faces at the Santa Cruz show. This was my first EFO concert since my husband of 30 years was killed on July 18th when he was hit by a unlicensed truck driver while riding his bike in San Jose. It was hard but I had to go, Bill and I loved going to EFO concerts. It was perfect the way a friend at the concert described it for me, "Bitter-sweet". I know and felt Bill would have been all smiles that night, and that was very healing for me. I took my brother to the concert and now he knows why Bill was a edhead. Now my brother is a new fan and hasn't stop listening to their CDs since. Well y'all keep smiling, that's what folks remember most of you. Thanks for reminding me, Sue, that there are far sadder things in life than losing a couple baseball games. IMHO the Gordon Center in Owings Mills is a much better room for an EFO show than the Warner. From 495@66 it'll be less than an hour, assuming usual Saturday traffic. Totally worth it. Of course I plug the Gordon Center cuz I live like two minutes away :o)# Speak of DC area shows, Danielle Howle returns to Jammin Java on Halloween Night! Best: The energy of the band. Despite the show being scheduled for a late 9:30 opening (and being delayed by house not letting the audience start coming in until 9:30) the band played with a full tank of gas the whole night long. This was quite impressive not only because of the time, but because the night before (after the Kwuumba show) they were still out drinkin' at the Poet and Patriot when I went home at midnight! Worst: The Knitting Factory. If juliemikeeddie&robbie are listening, PLEASE FIND A DIFFERENT VENUE! I know that this held slightly more than the McCabe's venue but the acoustics were HORRIBLE! I was probably about 30th in the line waiting to get in, and as such, there were no empty seats left in front of the stage where the tables were and instead got seats near the back of the first floor. For those of you who have never made it to the Knitting Factory, let me give you a quick layout: The theater has two floors with a balcony covering half of the first floor. If you were on the balcony, the audio was great but there weren't many chairs and the view diminished quickly as you went further back from the railing of the balcony. On the first floor, if you were lucky enough to have seats in front of the band, where there was no overhang of the balcony, the view was great and the acoustics, I assume, were pretty good. However, if you were unlucky enough to be in the back section of the first floor underneath the balcony (where more at least half the audience was) then the view was only decent and the acoustics were CRAP. They didn't seem to put any thought into the acoustics when they built the place so the walls and ceilings just reflected the sound around. I felt like I was listening to EFO from the end of a concrete hallway. It was really awful. When I went up to the balcony to check out the view from there, I realized truly how bad the acoustics were from my seat. Alas, my two guests did not want to stand for the whole show so we stayed in our seats and enjoyed the show, nonetheless. As if to add insult to injury, there was a bar at the back of the first floor and they didn't seem to care that a concert was going on. The bartender and busboys would talk quite loudly and shuffle glasses and water bottles without any consideration. So there you have it. As EFO will do, they played a great show and blew the crowd away. Will my negative experiences at the Knitting Factory keep me from coming back next year if they choose the same venue? No way. But maybe, just maybe, they will take this into account when they plan their next California adventure. Anybody have any feelings about how EFO would do at the Roxy (in West Hollywood?) I have seen David Wilcox there and was pretty impressed. Finally, a good-natured comment (meant to be taken lightly) about the finale's of both the Santa Cruz and LA shows. Julie rocks on the guitar. I cringed a bit when I saw Julie pick up the guitar for the finale. You see, the last time I saw Julie play guitar was at the very last Bad Habits show when she played Blood and Fire. Maybe it was the copious amounts of alcohol the band imbibed at that show, or the fact that it was 4 hours long, but Julie's guitar playing left a little to be desired then. This time, I was won over! ok, enough babble. Check out the MP3's (http://edheads.efohio.com) and keep on folkin'!
