Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 15:20:24 -0400 At popular request, I am sending out the list of suggestions (there's that word again) that I have so far. I'm trying to list each song/title only once, but as you'll see, I do keep track of how many "votes" each one got. So if you'd like to second someone else's idea, feel free and I'll tally it. I shouldn't have to say it, but please vote for each choice only once. I don't want any e-mails saying, "I want 47 votes on that Megadeth cover they don't do yet." Or something like that. :-) Also, needless to say, these suggestions are not all mine (obviously), but I couldn't very well list everyone's names who contributed (my apologies and thanks to all). Oh, and one last thing: I got several e-mails saying things like "any of the *insert band name here* covers that they do." While I'm sure they're all good, I'd really appreciate specific suggestions, as many as you'd like to give. Thanks. Again. Oops, one last last thing: if you see an entry on the list that is incomplete or incorrect (e.g. 'Love Me Tender' by Megadeth) please let me know. Again, the more specificity, the better. Thanks. Some more. Anyhow, here's the list so far: Compiled Song and Title Suggestions: Songs: * 'Message in a Bottle' by the Police (Robbie solo) [2 votes] * 'Whole Hearted' by Extreme [2 votes] * 'Rusty Old American Dream' by David Wilcox (Robbie solo) * 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright', by Bob Dylan [2 votes] * 'School House Rock' from Saturday morning cartoons [3 votes] * closer to fine (indigo girls) * but anyway (blues traveler) * love me like a man (don't know whose that is) * change (fishbone) * ~~led zepp's 'over the hills and far away' * ~~Robbie also does an AMAZING job on 'Vincent' * ~~john prine's 'angel from Montgomery' * ~~CSN & Y's 'suite Judy blue eyes' * ~~seven bridges road{is that the Steve miller band???} * ~~Galileo by the indigo girls [2 votes] * ~~Bruce Springsteen's 'fire' * ~~'get together' {it escapes me who sings that} you know the 'come on people now, smile on your brother...' 60's song * ~~woody Guthrie's 'this land is your land' * You've got to hide your love away - Beatles * Friend of the Devil - Grateful Dead * Damn, This Traffic Jam - James Taylor??? As a 10-year old living in the SF Bay Area, I became a fan. I have suffered through many years of the Giants having great teams but never winning the World Series. In game 6 of the 2002 World Series, with a 5-0 lead and only 9 outs to go, I began to imagine what it would be like for the Giants to actually win the World Series. Because the Giants were in game 7 last night, and did have a certain chance to win in spite of the choke the night before, I decided I would not go to the EFO show, due to the game and the lateness of the show. Around the 3rd inning, I realized where the game was heading, and I wanted no part of it. I said, "Hey, if I go see EFO, it will help ease the pain." About the 5th inning I got in the car and drove to Hollywood. In the car, I listened to music. While waiting to get into the club, I saw the band walking from the stage door to their bus. I told them that they had pulled me out of the house as a remedy for this disasterous game. The show was great, and did help some. It was good to see EFO on a bigger stage than McCabes so they were able to move around more and let loose. Luckily the club put tables and chairs on the main floor, which is usually just standing room. I hope the band had something to do with that decision. There was a good sized crowd, probably somewhat smaller than the two McCabes shows they usually do. Because it was a club, the crowd was more rowdy and loose than at McCabes. I realized again just how amazingly good this band is and how interesting their arrangements are. The show was just great. Although I had opposed them playing a Hollywood style club before, I realize that the ambiance of the club makes for a better show. Hopefully, they will be able to book a Friday or Saturday next time. I saw Stacy in line, who said she had been on the cruise. I made a couple new friends in line as well. Blond diva from Bakersfield, I was trying to figure out who you might be. I was wearing the red 49er cap. I just couldn't bear to wear my Giants cap last night. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 11:39:04 -0500 From: "Kerry Frey" Subject: Re: efo in the dc area? I didn't keep a setlist, but I'll try to recall the songs as best I can. I was actually pretty impressed, considering that it's been a year since they played here, and they haven't released a new album, but they played a totally different set than a year ago. Before I get to the songlist, I want to mention something. The show was on Saturday, but on Sunday I went to "downtown" Mountain View, CA (aka the "heart" of Silicon Valley) to get some coffee and study for a test. I walked into the Dana St. Roasting Company around 2pm to get my cup, wearing my brand new efo shirt (the light greenish-blue one with the green and blue lettering on it). And who do I see, but a guy with close-cropped blond hair sitting at a table wearing the same shirt as me! Of course, rather than concentrate all of the Edhead-dom in one place, I thought I needed to spread it out. We want to reach as many people with EFO as possible! So I took my coffee and went around the corner in front of the gelatto place to study. So, if you were that guy in the coffee shop on Sunday, please don't be insulted that I didn't talk to you, I was just trying to give EFO to the masses! Or, more likely, I was just scared to talk to a stranger. Songs (not in order, I just have to look through all the albums to see which ones they played, then add the extras): Quick Let's Get Mesolithic The Best of Me- This song they dedicated to a man in the audience whose wife had passed away earlier this year. They had been married 51 years. So you don't think EFO is totally morbid, this was a request dedication from the couple's sons, also in the audience. Number Six Driver- Robbie made a comment that they tried to drive through San Francisco Saturday morning, which was a mistake b/c there was a huge peace rally there. But he said that they were happy to see *any* other cars, as opposed to what they usually see driving through Idaho. 1,000 Sarahs Tommy the Canexican- according to Mike, this is the single that will catapult them to the top of the VH1 chart because it features him. His mom agrees. Great Day- They played this song at the end of the first set. It was areally great treat. Old Dominion Woman of Faith- They opened with this song, and it had an extended opening, including some excellent drumming from Eddie, Our Venerable Leader. I *so* love this song, I was really happy they played it! Irish Dream- complete with "Lord of the Dork" dancing from Julie and Mike. Loitering in the Lobby 20,000 Hearts- Robbie started out by saying that this was a serious song he wrote for his sister. That became a running joke for the next couple of songs, so that whenever Mike would say something funny that broke the rest of the band's concentration, he would follow it up by saying "Shh! Serious song for Robbie's sister!" Bookends- This is one of my favorite EFO songs to hear live! Yay! The Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown- Woo! I think there were about twice as many people doing the "Crazy Joe" as last year! We are slowly assimilating people! Simile Song- A large reaction from the crowd on this one. Jerusalem- Yet another of my favorite Robbie songs. So moving! Sahara- Robbie stole the show with this one. I really felt the connection with this song. And the specials- Blue Jeans- Woo-hoo! I've never heard this song before. It was *so* awesome. Mike said this was a request that someone asked for at the Charlottesville show. He said that if they didn't get to anyone's request that night in Santa Cruz, they might get around to it at Carborro, NC. Encore-Julie with a guitar! Julie picked up the guitar on the song that goes "Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try and love one another right now..." (whose name escapes me). Anyway, it was really appropriate for the Peace Rally at Golden Gate Park that day. Very Cool. The other encore song was Candido & America. Very cool as always. "Back Flip Boy"- apparently there were some gymnasts in the audience that had made a request. Mike made them turn on the house lights, and 2 guys did backflips at the back of the house. It was very exciting! Anyway, it was a totally great show, and if I forgot any songs, will someone correct me? Hope everybody at the SF show also had a good time! love, sarah ===== *** sarah with an h *** sarahrobeson at yahoo dot com Y!
