First, it's a Sunday night, and the club's website has inconsistent information about the start time, either 9 or 10. Also, this is a club (the Knitting Factory) in Hollywood, which is not the most convenient place to get to and to park. Apparently most of the room is standing room unless you make dinner reservations. All in all, I wish EFO were back at McCabes. I realize that they probably chose this new venue so they could have a bigger crowd and do only one show, but I wonder if they will get the draw in Hollywood if others feel the same way I do about Hollywood and this type of club, especially on a Sunday night." You should simply be happy that EFO is coming to Southern California, considering they don't get to some places at all yet, and most others they only play a couple of times a year. Sorry if they, or rather Fleming Artists, didn't consult you on the choice of venue. If they are able to put on one great show, and not have to do two shows to accomodate the number of people and run themselves into the ground, then good for them. There are people in other parts of the country who wouldn't care if they played a rock room, a theater, a coffee house, or a roadside bathroom reststop, they would simply be psyched and appreciate that EFO came to their town. Likewise, I am sure there will be people traveling down to Hollywood from other parts of California to see the show, just like people drive for hours to shows throughout the country. If you can't get the right info from the club's website, pick up the phone and call, it can be helpful to talk to an actual human being every now and then. If parking sucks, then take public transportaion or a cab. Don't want to stand up, then have dinner there. If Sunday night sucks, take Monday off. But my feeling is, if you are true Edhead (which most people who bother to be on this list are, you'd do whatever it would take to go to show near you. If you are just on this list to complain about how inconcvenient it all is for you, then don't go and let your ticket got to someone who is thankful just to get to see the band. For your information, I called "a real person" at the club last night. EFO's email says that the show is at 7:00, the Knitting Factory has the show at 9:30 or 10:00, depending where you look on the website. The "real person" could not clear this up. All she could say is, "call the day before." I have sent an email direct to EFO. Hopefully they can clear it up. The start time is important, wouldn't you say. Yes, I can have dinner and be sure of a seat, but don't you think a band will be a bigger draw if people can sit down and watch the show for $15-$20 rather than having to add an additional $25 to the bill just to have a decent seat? I don't think it's your place, Debs, to set down criteria of what a "true fan" would do, but this is typical of internet mailing lists. My criticisms of this choice of venue are because I like the band and I care about their success. If it was a band I didn't care about, I wouldn't give a rip. The Knitting Factory seems like a typical Hollywood club with a huge LA ATTITUDE, like the House of Blues, but unlike McCabes, which is a true folk venue and has no attitude, and is easy to get to. I know the band has been searching for a venue where they don't have to do two shows, but I predict that they will not do as well at the Knitting Factory on a Sunday night, or any night, than they do at McCabes. This is not because I am not a "true fan," but because I would like them to be as successful as possible in the LA market. I know what Hollywood is like, and I know what the folk scene is like, and they are very different animals. >If you are just on this list to complain about how inconvenient it > all is for you, then don't go and let your ticket got to someone who is > thankful just to get to see the band. Sounds like you should apply for a job at a Hollywood club. You have the right, "take what we give you and be thankful" attitude. On a related note, because EFO usually sells out two shows at McCabes each year, I was surprised that the EFO influence didn't bring more people out to the Tom Landa and the Paperboys show on Saturday night. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 10:24:21 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: LA Show Time from EFO This is direct from EFO > it is our understanding (while the time has changed from the original 7pm > time), that doors are at 9, and the show is at 9:30. > should we discover anything different we'll post it on our gigs page. > hope you can join us, > efo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 21:29:16 -0400 From: "Will Foy" Subject: RE: NC shows I'll be in Charlotte for the Neighborhood Thr show, and alas, my family and I have a house rented in Ocean Isle during the Brendle Recital Hall show in my hometown of W-S [ cough cough.
