Fifth Runner-Up -- Gyno-evangelism: An attempt by women to "flip" gay men. (Bird Waring, New York) Fourth Runner-Up -- Eco-alcoholism: You puke into your compost heap. (Steve Fahey, Kensington) Third Runner-up -- Meta-pessimism: The belief that pessimism is a hopeless philosophy that will never work. (Seth Brown, Williamstown, Mass.) Second Runner-Up -- Judeo-cannibalism: Eating human flesh is okay, but not with milk. (Greg Krakower, New York) First Runner-Up -- Osteo-witticism: A humerus play on words; a bone mot. (Chris Doyle, Burke) And the winner of the "Master of Disguise" promotional kit: Bi-jingoism: The feeling of revelatory elation that comes with the sudden slap-to-the-forehead realization that the thing to do is to attack both Iraq and Iran. (Paul A. Stone, Silver Spring) Honorable Mention: Sub-minimalism: The daily output of work by a member of Mayor Williams's petition committee. (Brooks E. Bowers, Damascus) Geo-Prizm: The act of buying a car you know full well will be sporting the bumper sticker "My other car is . . ." (Michael Clem, McLean) etc etc. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 12:31:29 EDT From: Shellyus@aol.com Subject: PSA follow-up just wanted everyone to know that i got word that the dood i had posted about had gotten home safely at 11am yesterday. yay for Media's finest to NOT let the theatre know that all was well. {dorks} sorry for bothering the list needlessly. thank y'all for understanding shell who canna beLIEVE that her little weekend caused a bit of INTRIGUE....who - -knows- what next year will hold............. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 19:28:07 -0400 From: Stuart Jewell Subject: Off EFO Topic - On Stones Topic Is there anyone on the list local to DC or willing to travel to DC that would like to join us Jewells to see the Stones. They are playing at FedEx field on Oct 4th ( a week from this Friday) and we have an extra ticket. The catch is you would have to of course pay the face value and service charge of the ticket. The total ticket cost is $105.70. I was rather shocked by the sticker price myself. However, I figure this might the last chance to see the Stones (as in their last 5 or so tours) and the ticket will just get more expensive the next time around if they survive for another tour. I've been told the Stones put on a real good show even for as old as they are. Also, "The Strokes" are apparently the warm-up band. Any takers? ========== Stuart ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 18:25:52 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Style Invitational They used to have a game in the online version of the Washington Post in the Style Section which used a vast collection of political buttons to create puzzles. Then one day, the link went away. I'm not sure if the puzzle went away. Do they still have that puzzle? ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V5 #208 *****************************
