I do believe they must pay royalties, but I do not believe that they need to get permission in the sense that I don't think a songwriter has the right to say, "No, you can't record my song." > But do they have to follow the same rules in order to play these songs live? > Does it matter if it's a concert or a bar gig? Venues are required to pay ASCAP and EMI fees which are supposed to cover the costs of playing other people's songs either by live bands or by jukebox. I'm not sure exactly how it works if a very big artist plays someone else's song at a large venue, but one way or another, royalties are involved. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Sep 2002 12:13:20 EDT From: Shellyus@aol.com Subject: Re: A new topic... The theatre directors gave her the number of the Media Police and she filed a missing persons report. He's from Nyack, NY, seemed like he was 19-20ish....medium build, longish curly hair and he came to the show 15 minutes before it was over, went up to the party. People upstairs remember seeing him and that was mainly standing alone and such... Anyhoo...if anyone who WAS at the show knows anything, could you please email me? Or if you -are- Ronald Blatt and are somewhere and are ok, PLEASE get in touch with your mother so she knows you're ok. And then have her call the Media Police back so they now all is well. And either email me or have - -someone- get in touch with me so I know all is well and that I won't expect any surprise calls from the police.{the theatre director gave them my name in case the guy tagged along with my posse} Ok...again...sorey to trouble the list, but I felt this was important. shelly ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V5 #207 *****************************
