I feel that Sam was publically wronged, therefore I defended him in public. If the topic bores you, do what I do when the discussion ranges to bands other than EFO (ie, topics which I don't care about) -- hit the old delete button. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 13:10:17 -0400 From: "Christopher Evans" Subject: A new topic... Covers. I agree, Marli. And thanks, Chris, for pointing out the glaring inconsistency and apparent ignorance of Mr. Menken. I was about to do it myself, but you beat me to it. Nothing like a good flame war to ruin an otherwise respectable list. How about another topic? I've been waiting for a while to suggest this. A while ago, I was talking with Mike Clem after a show and suggested that they do a cover album since they do several songs that were originally written and/or performed by other artists. Mike said that sounded like a neat idea, and certainly one with precedent, and then proceeded to rattle of some cover albums by other contemporaries of EFO. Then the question became, "What would we call it?" and more importantly, "What should we put on it?" Mike suggested that those two questions would be good conversation fodder for the list. So, the questions: What would you like to hear on an EFO cover album, and what do you think it should be called? Instead of bogging down EFO's inbox with responses, please send them to me (feel free to copy the list) and I'll compile them and pass them on. Please limit your suggestions to songs that you've actually heard them play at one point or another, and don't send me suggestions for songs that they don't do, like, "Wow, it'd be really awesome if they did that Megadeth song..." I will accept songs that have been redone solo, like Robbie's 'Message in a Bottle', and anything you've heard at a show. I shouldn't have to say it, but just in case, try to include as much information as possible, like song title, original artist, where you heard them do it, etc. Please send suggestions to me at chris@johnstondesigngroup.com with the Subject "Cover album suggestions". Any questions can be sent to the same address. That said, I'll get this started with some suggestions of my own: Songs: 'Message in a Bottle' by the Police (Robbie solo) 'Whole Hearted' by Extreme 'Rusty Old American Dream' by David Wilcox (Robbie solo) 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright' (not sure if that title is exactly right), by Bob Dylan 'School House Rock' from Saturday morning cartoons Titles: Cover Story Under the Covers Songs We Didn't Write There you go, folks. Please feel free to respond.
