I'm planning on making a trip up from NC to see Keller Williams and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones next month. Anyone else considering going? If so, those that know the area better than I, maybe we can do a meet n' greet, over coffee or a frosty cold beverage [so long as there's a DD in the house. :-D] I'll be in town that Wednesday and Thursday [ at least part of the day. I might go try to check out Smithsonian American History while I'm in town. ] Also, can anyone who goes to wolftrap get in touch with me about how thoroughly they check coolers? I'd like to get my rig into the show [ laptop, small preamp, mic's ], and setup to "tape" discreetly from the lawn, and I figure that hiding the pieces in my cooler will work best. I was just up in Rochester from Virginia visiting my company's office there for some training. Nice area. I had met a waitress named "Liz" at a place called "Ciao's" in Pittsford. She had started a conversation with me due to my Phish "Camp Oswego"/Possum shirt. My brother and I had attended this show. She apparently owned the Lizard version of the shirt and had said it was stolen. She asked if I'd been to any shows this summer. I had indicated only EFO so far. She had not heard of them. So long story short, EFO needs to play Rochester! I did point her to the EFO web page etc. - -----Original Message----- From: nichole [SMTP:fumblerette1@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 2:33 PM To: edheads@efohio.com Subject: Re: Incurring the wrath of Edheads... Haha, good plan. Indeed, I saw Moxy Fruvous a few summers ago. I wish EFO would come to western NY! Rochester (where I live now), Buffalo (where I'll live in a month), even Syracuse! I'd be there! :) nichole daniel godwin wrote: If EFO came to Rochester, or the surriounding Western New York community, there would be at least 2 people in the audience (and probably more... I could drag my friends) They could market themselves as, "Like Fruvous.... but better" since Buffalo and Rochester have (or had) a lot of Moxy Fruvous fans. I have to agree with Ellen as well. I know many people who don't like live shows because it does NOT sound just like the album. My opinion is that music comes from the soul and is usually not at its best when it is homogenized and shrink wrapped. However, I'm also a person who did some Dead following (probably over 50 shows including the New Years show in 85). However, 50 Dead shows make me a lightweight compared to some of my friends who followed the Dead. I also caught Phish whenever it was possible. So I do have some tendency toward the spontaneity of a good live show. I first heard EFO in the town of Herndon, VA where I live during a "Herndon Festival" in 93. They were playing a given set and I commented about how these people sounded pretty good. Then they did the Rider/Lovelight medley not to mention the "Not Fade Away" Cleo & Tony intro (reference earlier notes on following the Dead). I was surely hooked at this point and have tried to since catch EFO whenever feasible. Now another non-EFO classic example of live is better than album. For those not familiar with the Dead, there is a "Bobby" tune (i.e. sung by Bob Weir of the Dead) that they would use for the occasional opening tune. The song is called "Feel Like A Stranger". This is one of those songs that just got me stoked when they opened with it. I mean the song says "...it's gonna be crazy night! Haaa!". What more to get one fired up. However, when you hear this song on the album, one would likely agree that it is just about the dullest sounding song on the album ("Go To Heaven"). Yet the song played live just smokes. There now you have it. Ok I have "Quick" and LOVE LOVE LOVE it hubby and I fight over it. Have had the pleasure of seeing EFO live 2x sadly that's all I have been able to get to. A cd is like ice cream NO ONE says no to ice cream its just great. Now a live show is that same ice cream just with choco sauce, nutz, marshmallow, caramel, bananas, and an big fat cherry on top. Definitely waaaaaaaaaaaay more bang for your buck!! I am not a complete EFO snob I love live and studio!! not TOTALLY unrelated as the 1st time we saw her was at an EFO show, we caught Rachael B. Davis last night in Shirley, MA. Just the sweetest nicest person you would eva wanna meet!! She made herself some new fans last night the crowd didn't know who she was but boy did they like her!!!!!! that's my 45cents worth(inflation ya know) Tree(thewallpaperenJuliewannabe) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 13:58:36 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Music News for Old Farts Monday night on A&E at 8 pm there will be a brand new Biography on Bill Graham which I'm sure will feature a lot of footage of the early San Francisco bands as well as the many other great bands of the 60s.
