Although we didn't have mannequins, that would have been an interesting addition. I agree that the two highlights of the trip were the unplugged concert (did they get interrupted by the frozen drink machine again?) and the spontaneous hanging out moments. This is not to sound cooler-than-thou or anything, but on the first cruise the Sunday on the deck thing just kinda happened (sans rain, thank goodness), and it's neat to hear that the band and their families liked it so much they recruited for it this time. The highlight of that episode for me was a Seinfeld-like discussion among Robbie and 8 of us Edheads on how we would rank our preferences for cookies, cake, pie, and ice cream. I think we should actively try to convince the band to do their next get-together in a less aquatic environment, a ski trip perhaps, or a cabin retreat. Here's hoping that whatever it is I'll be able to go. Yes, the cruise was cool, though I vote for less brass and more wood. Maybe we can unscrew some of the bulbs . . . though that would take the whole weekend. At some point during the weekend, some of us were talking about a wonderful version of "Over The Rainbow" we'd recently been hearing. It was distinctive enough that it had stayed with several of us. ER used it as background for Dr. Greene's death scene. No one seemed to know who it was . . . I was able to scoop out the info - the song is one done by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and appears on his album, Alone in IZ World. He was (sadly) a well-beloved Hawaiian performer, who passed away in 1998. The album, though, can be found at record stores and on line. If you're a Hawaiian music fan, try especially www.tropicaldisc.com . Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday weekend with friends and family. Thanks again for a delightful weekend, and for your many e-mail memories. JamieGet more from the Web. Here's hoping that whatever it is I'll be able to go. I whole heartedly agree, and almost every person I mentioned this to on the cruise (all three of them, I think. :}) concurred. One sugestion was a train, self contained, like a boat, and with the added bonus of being an excellent venue for the train song. We would lose the ability to make bad nautical puns though. THis would be a huge loss. I'm not sure how they would do the concert aspect of it, a BIG snag. hmmmm... I, personally, would love a outdoors trip of some sort (like a mini folk festival, i suppose) but know that at least one member of the band hates camping. I can also imagine that it would be a whole lot of work keeping it from being a logistical nightmare. But there are summer camps in the Santa Cruz hills that you can rent for a weekend in the fall and spring. (Notice the sly attempt at getting out of having to pay plane fare.) There is also some of the best skiing on our side of the continent. Gah, I'm just bitter because I got picked, going to and coming back, for the security check before you enter the plane. i was wearing tevas and they made me take them off. The one consolation was the three year old they checked right before me. Color me not wanting to be in an airport for awhile.
