I'm interested in taping the show, although this is something I've never done before. I own a mini-DV camcorder, a Canon Optura Pi. I went out tonight and bought extra tapes, and I'm charging batteries as I write. So: I'd love some advice from anyone who's done this before. First up: is boardtaping still allowed at EFO shows? I know it's dependent on the venue, but is the band still OK with it? Second: what else should I bring? I'm bringing a selection cables, including RCA-to-camcorder audio cables, and some RCA-to-RCA extension cables, but is there anything in specific i should bring? Third: any general advice on getting good audio quality from this setup? Thanks much to any & all who respond... I've been listening to EFO since ~1992, but since I live in Texas it's hard to get to their shows. I caught one show in Albany NY about two years ago and during the set break I begged & begged Mike to bring the band to TX. I followed that up by sending Mike and his brother copies of the last Bad Habits CD sets...and wouldn't you know it, EFO came to Texas last year -- the exact weekend I was in Curacao leading a dive trip that had been in planning for a year. Sigh. I was sure they'd never ever come back to Texas after that...so I'm super pumped they're back in TX less than a year later, and *THIS TIME* I'm going -- and making up for last year by going to 2 shows. :) D ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 May 2002 22:37:32 EDT From: Ebeth526@aol.com Subject: Top 25 EFO Favorites OK - It was too hard to come up with only 20 favorite EFO songs. Soundman Bob McNichols started taping the shows himself about a year ago. He uses a Sony M1 DAT deck. The output from this deck is a 1/8" miniplug. Best strategy is to have a cable that can plug into his deck on one end, and the appropriate connector to your deck on the other. Without knowing the inputs to the camcorder, you could improvise with a 1/8" miniplug-to-RCA cable, plus two barrel connectors, plus your RCA-to-camcorder cable. You can get the 1/8" miniplug-to-RCA at any Radio Shack for about $5 or $6. Barrel connectors are about $3 or $4 each. It's possible that Bob can set you up with a separate connection using just the RCA-to-camcorder cable, but it will be easier on him to connect to his M1 deck. Figure on 65 to 75 minutes for the first set, and 80 to 90 minutes for the second set plus the encore.
