I went on Flem Tam the other day and they hadn't scheduled anything on the tour dates for this fall in CA. This was very scary to me because they did have scheduled some dates in Colorado and i was frightened that that was the farthest West they were coming this year. (And also, in preious years, the CA tour schedule was up by now.) So I sent an email over and this was what was the reply: "fear not, it's in the works, but Flem Tam has their work cut out for them trying to move us to some bigger rooms. The two shows a night is kiling us, and we're really trying our best to get away from that everywhere we go, though sometimes it's unavoidable (see Ames, IA and Northampton, MA)". I remember after the McCabe's show last year Robbie mentioning that they really hate the two show a night experiance, that it's exhausting, that by the second set it's hard to keep the energy up and they feel that it's basically a waste of resources (i'm paraphrasing here, because it was late and my memory's a little sketchy. That's why I love having Nicole twn confirmation on things - her mind is a steel trap. ;>) So, I'm not going to freak out and just concentrate on how much I'm looking forward to the Cruise! Hey, I liked the palms in davis but you can't fit more then 10 people in that venue comfortably and i think someone was watching me pee the last time i was there. (in the bathroom people! ::giggle::) In all seriousness though, I beleive the Great American Music Hall in San Fran (the place looks like a bordello, so it gets major props from me. mmmm... brothel decor) was mentioned as a possible venue as well as the Coach house in San Juan Capistrano. I was just at the el rey in LA to see Bob Mould and that is an awesome venue with some kickass pecan pie and mozzerella sticks. I can't help thinking that after the '99 tour debacle of going inland (Davis to Mammoth Mountain to Santa Monica) the band may be leary of our non- coastal splendors. And don't try to pass off Sacremento as coastal! Y'all have been trying that for years! As a transplant from VA via SoCal, I know the Coach House very well and agree it would be a great venue for EFO. I might just make the southbound trek for that (no whining from me---so long as I don't have to go to Sonoma...kidding!). Humphrey's on Shelter Island in San Diego is a brilliant venue, too---outdoors, right on the harbor. The Belly Up in North San Diego County also draws good artists, notwithstanding a name equal in charm to the decor of the Great American Music Hall. Of course, all of the above fall in step with your "coastal" priority. You may or may not have heard that The Palms in Davis is due to close---something about someone peeing in public... I didn't ge the full story...
