Nickel Creek and EFO together? That is gonna be one great show! Nickel Creek is a great band. They play folkgrass--kind of a bluegrass/folk/newgrass/pop amalgam. You will like them. :) Steve >From: JRaimo007@aol.com >To: >Subject: Re: somerville show? anyone? >Date: Mon, 01 Apr 2002 09:52:36 EST > >There's gonna be a ton of people at that show. Anyone > heard of them? > One of my real close friends is going to see Nickel Creek at the Somerville Theater the previous week... he's wild for them and describes them as a "bluegrass" band. He doesn't care much about EFO though - I guess there's no accounting for taste for not liking EFO. I hadn't noticed they're playing together the night before the Somerville EFO concert... maybe I'll talk to my friend about that. Hmm. I'll bet a dose of live EFO might cure him... I live 5 minutes' walk from the Somerville Theater, I'll be at the EFO show on the 13th with a number of friends, all of whom I got into this EFO thing. I ran into EFO playing on Newbury Street years ago (Julie tells me it was their first Boston performance), I arrived just as they were finishing (I think I got to hear "The Bridge" and part one other song) but I was hooked... unfortunately I mis-remembered their name (somehow they got filed in my head as "BFO") and it took me a couple years to find them again. I saw somebody on the T with an "Eddie From Ohio" t-shirt, leapt for joy, and looked them up on the Internet as soon as I got to the office. It turned out last year's Somerville Theater concert was just weeks away, so I bought a couple tickets and invited a friend who likes folk music. I don't know if it was the band having a particularly spectacular night, or the weather, or the alignment of the stars, but it seemed like EFO's concert last year at the Somerville Theater was specially magical, from Davinci's Notebook opening to the four EFO encores (finally ending with an unmicrophoned, acapella "irish prayer"), it was amazing. And, it was a special night of bonding with my best friend, a sweet guy I don't get to see enough of sometimes, who went to see EFO on faith in my recommendation and fell in love with the music. After that I saw them again last year in Atlanta GA (I was visiting my dad the same weekend they were there, and i wanted something fun to do with him, so I dragged him along and he liked it) but it just wasn't the same: the band kicked ass but I didn't feel that special connection between band and audience I felt in Somerville. Then my buddy and I went to see EFO again in Marblehead in the fall, shortly before the maternity leave, and it was another really specially wonderful concert. (Being in the second row didn't hurt!) We're *really* looking forward to the Somerville Theater concert and are bringing as many of our friends as we can talk into it. (And my friend is bringing his mom!) So, did anyone record last year's Somerville theater show, and if so can I beg you to share it? I'll bribe you with homemade fudge! (Or something equally good if you're diabetic or allergic to chocolate or don't like it...) I know one edhead videoed it, I don't know if you're willing to share that but we'd love it if you were. I'd also really love if anyone is going to be recording this year's show and can share. (I don't have any portable recording equipment, unfortunately.) I just know it's going to be fantastic. The EFO video page is currently featuring "Oh my Brother" from last years Somerville Theatre show. Also up at the moment is "Hey Little man" from the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. If you haven't seen this one yet, you should do so soon, because it is going to be replaced sometime this week with a new video (I think it is "Irish dream" from East Greenwhich the night before Somerville or Eddie's Concubine, I can't remember which). the EFO video page is located at: www.hakmusic.com which also has video pages for EFO friends the Nields, the Kennedys, and the Paperboys. - - Harry www.hakmusic.com p.s. do I get some fudge? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hey EdHedz; I'm a newbie to the list, first post. Fell in love with EFO after hearing "Number Six Driver" on THE Best Radio Station in the world, 105.3 WEBK in Killington, VT. Rushed out and bought Quick, quick. Harmonies like no other. Instrumental ability to drool over. My wife is tired and pregnant, too (in that order? ;-)) so... Anyone going to the Calvin Theater gig? Maybe we can hook up and then I'm not the lonely loser in the corner... ;-) Sincerely 'Ed'-ified, Chris Saratoga Springs, NY - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Merullo" To: ; "Beth Simons" Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 9:57 AM Subject: Re: somerville show? anyone? > My wife and I would love to go but I'm not sure the Somerville theater is > the place to bring a 9-months pregnant woman. > > Unless... > > What would be a good EFO song to give birth to? > > Looking out the Fishbowl? > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Beth Simons" > To: > Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 9:02 AM > Subject: somerville show? anyone? > > > > hey, all...i've been on the list for a while, but haven't ever > posted...i'm > > a college student in NH. i WAS a college student in DC, but i > > transferred...big mistake efo-wise. :-( > > is anyone else going to the somerville theater show on april 13? i haven't > > heard any discussion of it, but i know most of you are VA folks, > > so....anyone? i'm going with my mom--i've gotten her totally hooked. she > > even went out and bought her own copy of quick because i wouldn't let her > > borrow mine anymore. haha. > > oh, and i'm soooo jealous of all of you cruiseheads. no fair!!! sun, > water, > > AND efo! it's all just too much. lol. > > --beth > > > > > > > > <>o<>o<>o<>o<> > > Beth Simons > > beth@simons.mv.com > > Merrimack, NH (and St-Brieuc, France, at heart) > > > > "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up > > where I intended to be." > > --Douglas Adams ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V5 #48 ****************************
