It was just a geek/edhead thing to do. It was our "perfect album" of unreleased songs. FYI, the cover art is the troll under a bridge near the University of Washington. - -----Original Message----- From: Nicole Carlson [mailto:nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu] Sent: Monday, March 04, 2002 3:24 PM Cc: edheads@efohio.com Subject: Re: Fresh Bugs on the Windshield On Mon, 4 Mar 2002, Kerry Frey wrote: > Ok, I was doing some random efo surfing, and came across this page: > http://edhead.org/albums/lyrics.htm. It's not an album; it's a list of unrecorded (i.e. new) songs... circa 1996. If you look at the lyrics, you'll notice that they're clearly transcribed by a person who had never seen the "real" lyrics (because it was before the release of Big Noise, and the lyrics weren't known yet.) IIRC, Geoff (Endlich, Grand High Poobah of edhead.org) called his transcriptions of then-new songs "Fresh Bugs on the Windshield" because, for some reason or another, his EFO road-tripping during those months resulted in an unusually high number of dead bugs on his windshield. - --nicole twn *** "I disagree with the idiots."--CS professor, on gracefully handling an opposing opinion Visit Nicolopolis! http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~carlsonn nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu ana.ng@tmbg.org carlsonn@seclab.cs.ucdavis.edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 12:31:31 -0500 From: "Jim Merullo" Subject: (non EFO) Guitarists? Sorry if this is off topic. Do any guitarists (or wanna-bees like myself) out there no of any on-line (or otherwise) forums for finding other "musicians" (by "musicians" I mean "people who also own instruments") to jam with? Most of the forums I've seen are populated by 16 year olds who want to learn the latest Lint Bisquick songs. Not that there's anything wrong with that (*cough*) but I'm looking more for 30-somethings like myself who have no desire to be rock stars (any more) and are interested in mostly acoustic stuff like EFO, Nields, Jim's Big Ego, Phish, Beatles, and just getting together to learn while playing. In my 10 years or so of being a guitar owner (as opposed to a guitar player) I've had a real hard time finding people to play with in a casual setting. Just thought I'd throw this out to the guitarists in the group. I know you're out there. I'm in Brooklyn, NY, and the only get togethers of this type I've ever heard of in the NYC area were in Northern Jersey or Eastern Long Island which are both about an hour and a half away (on a medium traffic day). So, I'd love to get together Jim, but the four hour drive is just too much. Is there anyone else in Brooklyn who'd want to do this (much to Jim's frustration?)? - -Will ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 17:11:13 -0500 From: "John Ryan" Subject: Re: (non EFO) Guitarists? Okay, if you like jamming to Beatle songs, here are a couple of options for you: This weekend, Beatlefest!!!! A Beatlefest convention that I've worked at for 8 years, where there are jam sessions all day and all night long, usually going into 4-5 in the morning. You have to pay to get in during the day, but you can probably just sneak into the hotel late at night for the late-night jam session, which is the one I participate in. On the 2nd floor, it's all acoustic. Http://www.beatlefest.com The other event(s) I know of all the anniversaries of John Lennon's birthday and death. Go to Strawberry Fields in Central Park (W. 72nd St. and Central Park West) for this jam session that goes from about noon until when the park closes. Having a scheduled jam session in Washington Square Park during the warmer months would work well also. I am a fan of the Beatles, EFO, Nields, Moxy Fruvous, They Might Be Giants, Great Big Sea, Arrogant Worms, and Billy Joel, hence I know their stuff fairly well on guitar. > > The problem I've always had with this is that when I do > find people who want to play this kind of music, we all > tend to live over an hour away which makes it really > hard to get together on a regular basis. > > I'm in Brooklyn, NY, and the only get togethers of this > type I've ever heard of in the NYC area were in > Northern Jersey or Eastern Long Island which are both > about an hour and a half away (on a medium traffic day). > > So, I'd love to get together Jim, but the four hour > drive is just too much.
