Check out the air fares as the cruise approaches (i.e. now, next month, etc.). If the air fare looks like it could not possibly get any lower, go for it! Aside from any fare wars, you will want your tickets at least 30 days in advance for the cheaper rates. I'm not sure how much rates will vary if it's 30 days or 6 months. You may also want to review market news and any online or other travel info for tips on cheap air fares. If you happen to stumble into air fares for a given airline that just can't be beat, let us all know. :). Janice and I will want to know ourselves when a good time to buy tickets. ============ Stuart - -----Original Message----- From: Nicole Carlson [SMTP:nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu] Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 8:43 PM To: edheads@efohio.com Subject: EFO: OT: Hey, frequent fliers? Hi everyone I finally registered for the cruise! Hooray etc. Now I'm up against a question I've never really found a good answer for, so I put it to you: What's the best strategy for getting the cheapest airfare? Buy it 6 months in advance (i.e. now) or hope for a fare sale before May? I've heard conflicting advice from all fronts. Your input is appreciated. - --nicole twn *** "I try to let the river flow in and out of me, and pray I float the way I think I want... and pray I float at all."--Guster Visit Nicolopolis! http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~carlsonn nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu ana.ng@tmbg.org carlsonn@seclab.cs.ucdavis.edu ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2001 11:49:54 -0500 From: "Hovis, Lonnie" Subject: RE: OT: Hey, frequent fliers? Another thing you can do with most airlines (I know you can for Southwest), is buy tickets whenever you want online, then if the prices go down you can buy them again (same flight) and they will refund your $$. I have friends that do this for soccer games all the time, but I've never done it myself. Please consult an actual person online before attempting it - otherwise you'll have two sets of tickets and you'll have to bring more friends along :) - -----Original Message----- From: Stuart Jewell Check out the air fares as the cruise approaches (i.e. now, next month, etc.). FYI, if you purchase a ticket and the fare drops afterwards, you can get the difference refunded, but only if the fare drops for the exact same flights you are on. All you need to do is call the airline and tell them that you know that the fare is less (they won't tell you on their own). However, do not buy a second ticket, as you will then get stuck with two nonrefundable tickets, each with a $100 change fee. - --- "Hovis, Lonnie" wrote: > Another thing you can do with most airlines (I know you can for > Southwest), > is buy tickets whenever you want online, then if the prices go down > you can > buy them again (same flight) and they will refund your $$.
