I've never heard such nonsense--I only use voodoo to influence them to tour California more often. Honestly, I find it works best to politely request something at least a day or so in advance and hope for the best. The only song I know of that they flat-out refuse to play is Schoolhouse Rock. (They got sick of it.) Some hints--not that I'm saying that you've necessarily been trying wrong, but some thoughts I've long wanted to give to everyone I've overheard after shows going "Sucks they didn't play _____; I yelled it out during intermission." 1. Be polite. Remember, you're asking a favor. 2. Yelling out requests has a success rate on par with rain dancing. 3. If your request is out of left field, they'll need to know about it way beforehand if it's to have any chance at all. Not just before the show, but before sound check--they may need to run through it. At the Santa Cruz show, someone yelled out a request for Falling Rock. Now, cool as it is to request something obscure, EFO haven't done Falling Rock in several YEARS. 4. Don't take it personally. There are all kinds of compelling reasons why a song might not get played. As for my own request, I was talking with Julie after the Santa Cruz show and learned that a) they liked the way Bowling In The Hills fit into the setlist they had in mind, and b) they had a chance to run through it during soundcheck. Voodoo magic? Personal charm? Mad song-requesting skillz? Nah, just a happy marriage of song request and favorable conditions for it. :) Good luck. - --nicole twn *** "We are all worms, but I do believe that I am a glow-worm."--Winston Churchill Visit Nicolopolis! http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~carlsonn nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu ana.ng@tmbg.org carlsonn@seclab.cs.ucdavis.edu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 19:51:14 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Southern California Setlist McCabes Second Show 10/5 No. 6 Stupid Quick Best Simile (not performed) Lil' Man Sarahs Town Bro Don't Think (not performed) Solo Candido Tommy Eddie's Amer Jerusalem was added, as was Down to the River to Pray (as an encore). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 23:10:38 -0400 From: "Charlotte Shoneman" Subject: Fwd: requests Rhiannon asked me to forward this to the list...her email is broken........ >>School House Rock Medley.
