I was at the Commerce Building in DC for a meeting when someone came in and said the World Trade Center had been hit, then about a half hour later came back in and said the Pentagon had been hit. I was sort of surprised that we didn't hear that one. About 10 minutes after we got the news about the Pentagon we all heard what certainly sounded like an explosion outside, shortly after which someone said a bomb had gone off at the Capitol and everyone bailed. That turned out not to be true, of course, so I wonder what the explosion was. Walking out of DC (literally) it looked like a scene from Independence Day or something - cops and rescue personnel everywhere, traffic gridlocked at every intersection. I and quite a few others outpaced most of the cars by walking from downtown across the river into Northern Virginia. Actually had to go back to work but it's hard to focus. We all ran outside, and there was black smoke everywhere. Shortly thereafter, we were ordered to leave our building immediately. There were US Marshalls around. Needless to say, everything was chaotic and it took me 3.5 hours to go the 6.5 miles to my house. It was a freaky situation. steve >From: "Shawn McCausland" >To: , "David Martosko" >Subject: Re: Is everyone ok? >Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 14:34:06 -0400 > >I was at the Commerce Building in DC for a meeting when someone came in and >said the World Trade Center had been hit, then about a half hour later came >back in and said the Pentagon had been hit. If you can, you should call your local hospital and donate blood. Up here, they are in desperate need of O negative blood, and any other kind doesn't hurt. - -Will ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 16:42:39 EDT From: JRaimo007@aol.com Subject: DC Cruiseheads..... ...hoping all my cruise friends in the DC and NYC area are OK.
