What a great festival again! I thought to myself as I drove from Salt Lake to Pagosa Springs that perhaps next year I'll journey to a new festival next year. But after the weekend was over I knew that as long as EFO was back so was I. It is a beautiful site, great music, just a fine weekend really. I went alone and ended up sitting with a bunch of retirees who all lived in Pagosa and were all EFO fans. In fact one came just to see their set, then left when it was over. He missed some other great stuff however. Tom Landa and the Paperboys were incredible. So much energy and such a beautiful fiddle player. And of course Nickel Creek, Alison Brown, Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott. I think the surprises for me this year were Terri Hendrix and the Waybacks. Great stuff. And again Cabaret Diosa put on a great show. Sort of a Mambo Jam band with some gypsy swing thrown in. Nickel Creek jammed with EFO along with Tom Landa and his bass player. They did a great version of Candido and America with Tom Landa supplying the Spanish at the end. He was singing something other than what was on the CD and my Spanish is not up to par enough to understand most of it. I did hear "It's all right" however. The audience supplied the O's. Very beautiful. The highlight of the entire set, both set's actually, was a cover of Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. A great Dylan cover that I hadn't heard before even though I have the song on CD. Found that out when I got home. Another highlight was their vocal workshop. It seemed we all had the same question for them, if they will ever release an a cappella CD. They acted like they had never thought of it before and no one would buy it. I know everyone present at the workshop would however. Perhaps this is something we will see in the future? Anyway, all in all it was an incredible weekend of music and good times. I am betting there will be some good pictures and info about the whole thing on the Folkwest webpage soon, may be there already. The festival world truly is so much better than the real world. - -Dave B. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 14:36:15 -0400 From: Brian Onufrychuk Subject: Brown's Island Great Great show at Brown's Island last saturday. Like someone said before, playing right after Jimmie's Chicken Shack I was not expecting the crowd to be really into them, but everyone was dancing and singing the o's for candido. EFO seemed really pleased with there preformance. Overall, awesome show, awesome set, only complaint is that I wish they played longer. On a side note, i know a while ago someone asked for web sites to download efo songs and there were a few replies. I tried to keep them until i got back here at school, but i somehow deleted the emails. If anyone could respond again with the sites, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!! I don't have much space left on my web site, so I created a Yahoo Club for EFO. You have to have a yahoo login (which is free AFAIK) to see them. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/efo Enjoy! don Trudeau takes full responsibility, acknowledging the use of fictional material from an outside source instead of simply making it up as he usually does. Judging from the posting on the website, EFO likes the room as well: "We recently did a fundraiser show at this space, and it's quite honestly, the best Chicago room we've ever played! What a performance space. You gotta make it on out to this one. This will be our CD Release date in Chi-town - so don't miss it." ---taken from Eddie's Tour Dates As an extra bonus, The Park West also has a grand piano, so there's a really good chance you'll hear something like "In Paradise" or even "Over the Rainbow" --an unbelievable song EFO performed at the Park West in June. More than a few people had tears in their eyes after that one--including Tony Bohnenkamp, the drummer for The Nadas. Tickets are only $15 bucks--a huge value considering what a great venue it is. Most of the shows at Park West are between $25 and $50 depending on the performer. If you are within a few hundred miles of Chicago on Sept. 28, make it a point to get to this show!
